Hey guys

It looks like a bulk of my spam is coming from this mailing list.

Admins,
Is there any way you can set that you can only post if you are part of
the group, otherwise it's detained for review? It would really cut
down on the static, and it was super easy to join the group.

Thanks guys!

Hi Paul

Thanks...

I can change the posting settings.. I was trying to keep things open as possible just like the open environment I would like to create with the group.

I've been deleting each piece and banning users per incident. Now, I've turned on the Request to Join feature so that people can't join and then immediately spam. That, will hopefully, take care of the spam issue.

Thanks, Rick

Hey Guys,

I don't mean to make it a big deal or anything, I was just trying to
"read the play"

Thanks guys!

No problem...it is a pretty serious flaw in google groups and probably a pretty effective malware vector...it needed to be done...

Not to mention reporting spam will report the list, so we are stick
without being able to report it

I'm using Gmail and have purposely NOT been reporting the incoming
spam so that legit list messages do not risk getting bounced. Gmail
must be doing some level of spam filtering itself since I've only
received 1 or 2 spams in the last week or so.

We are only getting one or two pieces of spam a week to the group (unless i am not seeing all of it) but it is still annoying.. .interestingly google groups did alert to me to one post as possible spam and I was able to delete it before it went out...so it looks like they are trying, at least...

There's an option I usually use when I make a google group, that
requests from new members must be moderated. It's great because new
members don't see any barrier to posting, and at the same time spam
doesn't get through. It's a little more work on the moderator's part,
because they have to mark those spam messages as spam, but it's only a
few each month.

my 2 cents
