Hey all,

I am a NEO hacker, without a hackerspace.

Is this hackerspace online yet? If so, I have a fairly interesting
proposal for ya'll.

I am the lead of Ubuntu Ohio, and would _love_ to work out a deal. I
think it could benefit the both of us if we were to come up with a
sponsorship arrangement, and hold events at the hackerspace -- instant
publicity and credibility, and Linux tech support ;)

Let me know your thoughts / feelings on this, and even whether or not
you guys are online :)

Hey Paul -

Thanks for the message. We expect to get online in February. Can you elaborate on what you mean by a sponsorship arrangement?

Ubuntu Hour looks like a natural fit - I'll try to attend the January 8th meeting.

Hey Rick -- Thanks for the quick response

I was thinking a very low resource exchange between us -- we are both
resource shy.

We would be able to provide tech support, speakers ( who know their
stuff ;) ), and a low volume of swag. You would be able to provide a
space to hold talks, and if you are willing -- Ubuntu Hour.

We have a base of about 300, but only about 10 active in North East Ohio

Membership fees ( if applicable ) could be handled outside of this :)

I think this could work out great. It sounds like we have a lot of
hardware guys in the group now and it would be nice to see some
software hacks.

Oh, Rick -

The Ubuntu Hour for the next few weeks is canceled, everyone is off
doing family stuff. If you'd like, I can send a notice here when we
get back into the swing ( on the 23ed )

Hi Paul

When I read your email, I jumped up in excitement.. We would love to have you host your events at the hackerspace. How would you like to host your Jan meeting there? We can work out the details of the sponsorship soon..

We are having a meetup at the space on Jan 12th. Additionally we have weekly conference call on Tuesday. The dial in information is a page in the google group. Please feel free to dial in.

Let me know what you think..

Greg.

Hey Greg,

Do you guys have the space yet? I would _love_ to host the Jam there,
if you guys have some voltage, and a few tables / chairs by the jam (
~ march-ish ) I think we can get it done!

I'll be back in Cleveland on the 19th, I would love to meetup with you
guys, and talk about the prospect of some NEO Hackerspace / Ubuntu
work. I think it would be awesome :)

I'll see if I can't dial in on the next meeting. I also joined the
Mailing List here, so I'll keep up to date on current events

Hi Paul

Yes we have the space. We just have not formally opened the organization as we are working through how to join forces with the Makers Alliance to form one hackerspace community here in Cleveland. We can have "unofficial" events anytime we want until the incorporation and insurance items are worked out..We hope to have these item worked out by Feb, which is why Rick responded the way he did.

So we would love to host your group ASAP as an "unofficial" event and then consider having the space be your official home.

For a little background on the space....Dar Cadwell, who is on the planning committee, is a partner in a company called Goldstein Cadwell and Associates (GCA). You can check them out at http://www.goldcald.com/. GCA is an incubator company with 10 or so companies that are in different stages of growth. GCA is interested in helping young entrepreneurs launch their companies and are filling a hole that is not currently provided here in the region  They have an office located in University Circle area right next the Cleveland Clinic.

GCA has offered the space to us for free (well we need to cover the utilities) as way to get started. The building is getting knocked down in 15 months so we can do what ever we want to the building (security wiring etc) without having to worry about asking permission.

The office used to be a floral distribution center so it has an industrial two car garage plus a wide open office space. The space is perfect for a beginning hackerspace since we need the workbench component snce some members of the group are hardware guys as well as makers. In addition to the garage the upstairs is completely open which is where we planned on putting some card tables etc to hold the classes etc or events/meetups such as your group.

Some people have asked why GCA is being so nice. Most of their portfolio companies have some sort of technology component and they cannot find enough resources for their companies. They are dying for people to hook up with their companies to help them accelerate the development of their companies products. They  just want to be around more very smart people and hope more ideas flow out of the community by offering the space to us. They do not have any other motives other than being nice guys..

Hey Greg,

Thanks for that background -- We'll be in touch about this, I think
this will be a good fit for us :)

The meetup on the 12th is actually at the space in University Circle?
I must be missing some posts or I guess it was discussed during the
phone meetings. If someone could post whatever gets discussed during
those it would be great. Anyone know a time for the meetup?
Thanks,
Greg (the second one?)

That might have been the part I missed. There is a mailing list
besides this fourm? Whatever works on the names. I also go by my
handle of Graxe sometimes. Anyways I rarely meet other Gregs.
