I like Burning River ProtoLab but it seems long to me.
I would also like the "Studio" idea kicked around.

According to Wikipedia:
A studio is an artist's or worker's workroom, or an artist and his or
her employees who work within that studio. This can be for the purpose
of architecture, painting, pottery (ceramics), sculpture, scrapbooking,
photography, graphic design, cinematography, animation, radio or
television broadcasting or the making of music.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio> )

Really, we are trying to attract different "arts" to show up and
collaborate, be it programmers, hardware people, actual artists,
anyone...

ProtoStudio

I signed on to upload my logo, but found there was already a logo :)
So I decided to upload mine anyway since it was already done.

I went with the name NEO ProtoStudio since it's short, but we can always change it.
The symbol is whats important because the studio is a collaboration of different skills as represented by T-square, monkey wrench and mouse. The symbol forms a Tent type of "roof" which represents our space and because a tent is easily moved/changed to fit the needs of the moment, so is our studio.

Let me know what you think.

Personally, I think protostudio is a bit long to be in a name. I
think burning river _____ works best, as far as imagery goes.

Burning River Compiler?

compiler sounds too software oriented.

How about Burning River Protolab like you already suggested?
The "long" part to me is 'Burning River', but I can live with it.

How about

Burning River Fabbers

Also, for the logo...I was thinking of a flow of molten solder (lava
like) as the burning river...

How about solder lava flow off Ralph Perk's head?

As mayor, Perk became the subject of national ridicule on October 16, 1972, when he accidentally set his hair on fire while he attempted to use a welder's torch for a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a convention in Cleveland [1]

I love it. We could tell the whole story of Perk setting his hair on fire.

I can find a metal head from a statuette or something and then put on nichrome wire hair. Nichrome gets red hot and is used in hair dryers and other types of heaters...we could make burning head videos of stuff catching on fire!!

This is exactly the type of ridiculous stuff I want to do!!!
