In case anyone is interested, there is a capture-the-flag style hack challenge at Hurricane Labs in Independence next Wednesday:
http://www.hurricanelabs.com/hack_challenge_2010

I went to the last one and had a blast.  They do a really good job of balancing it so newbies will have fun and find flags, and those more experienced will have some good challenges.  They provide tools, although you'll want to bring your laptop if possible.  Recommend bringing a backtrack CD which you can find here: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads.  Its a free event, register ahead so they can create your account and buy enough beer.  If you really don't want to participate you can also come along and spectate, Rick will be explaining the mechanics of different flags in a separate room, and there will be a talk at the end from a Defcon CTF winner.

A few of us from Security Justice will be there to proctor...meaning we'll be floating around offering help to people that are stuck.  If you have even a passing interest in security I strongly recommend you try to make it out, its a great way to learn about and/or practice some attack techniques, as well as network with a bunch of local infosec folks.

Cheers,
Chris

I'll try to make it. Some Case kids (cc'ed) might also be interested.

Everyone says they'll only spectate and ends up diving in once they get there ;)  Trust me, whatever your skill level you will find flags. And if you're stuck, several of us will be there to help.  Thats one of the things I really enjoyed last time, it was less of a competition and more of a collaboration with everybody helping each other out.

I plan on attending too.  My offensive security skills probably need a little more work so I will probably be a spectator this time around too.

Now this is something I can get into! I'd be VERY interested. I know nothing so I'll be watching.

Do you know the time frame for which this event will take place?
