Hi everyone,

I had a few minutes this morning, so I got to work on starting our blog. I borrowed Tecopia's beautiful sunset tapestry for our banner--please let me know if this is OK!

What I would like to do is start a list of all of our members. I am going to go through the "Introduce yourself" thread and grab URLs and shop names from there. If you have not already added your info to that list, now is the time :)

I would also like to make an Etsy Mini featuring rotating pictures of our work, but can't figure out how to do that without making an NFEST shop and choosing all of our NFEST items as favorites. Anyone have ideas on that?

Lastly, I think it would be great to have a team of authors working on the blog. If you have a desire to do any kind of writing for the blog, be it a weekly feature or an occasional piece, please let me know!

Here it is--our blog: http://nfest.blogspot.com/

Thanks,
Rebecca

One other thing I've done is made a nearcircle group for us. Once you join it, you can add your shop's RSS feed to it, and your updates will appear on our blog. If you have a blog, you can add the NFEST nearcircle widget to your pages and we can all cross-promote :) Hooray!

Here is our nearcircle page:

To join the circle, you have to become a member of nearcircle first. As one of your sites, enter in your Etsy RSS feed (for example, mine is
feed://www.etsy.com/rss_shop.php?user_id=5325342 ). Get your RSS feed URL by clicking the little RSS icon on your Etsy shop page (usually up in the address bar). You can also put your blog in the feed (I added my crafting blog).

Let me know if you have trouble or any questions!

Thanks,
Rebecca

The new blog is so cool!!!  Thank you so much for creating it!  I LOVE Tecopia's tapestry at the top.  It's so tropical. :)

I got confused on the circle thing.  Will you explain that again?  When I went there I didn't see where to add my rss?  I don't know much about computers.  So, don't feel like you're talking down to me.  I really really don't get it. Any help is good help! :D

No worries--I'll walk you through it.

First, you go to nearcircle.com. Then click the link that says, "Click here to create your free account now."
(or, just follw this link LOL: http://www.nearcircle.com/signUp )

You'll enter in your new username and pasword, then click the sign up button.

You'll be taken to a screen to enter in your Etsy shop's URL. You can just enter your URL it looks like instead of having to find the RSS feed URL.

Once you claim your URL, you'll be taken to the profile page. You can fill that in, make an avatar, etc.

After you're done with that, you'll be taken to your page. *Then* you can click the link that says "view the directory of circles," and find our NFEST circle (it's under the Hobbies and Crafts section).

Click the NFEST link, and you'll be taken to our circle page. At the top, you'll see a link that says "subscribe" and "join". If you choose subscribe, you'll be able to access the circle page, but your sites won't be added to the list. If you choose join, you'll be a full member of the circle and you can then add your sites to the feed. It will automatically appear on our blog site--pretty cool, eh?

And the nearcircle site has a chat room, so we can have needlefelting chats whenever we want!

Thanks,
Rebecca

Rebecca!!!
Wow, I am so flattered that you wanted to use my tapestry!!
Thank you so much, it looks great!
Marti

P.S. I have a couple of totally ignorant questions to ask, so no one
laugh too hard, k? LOL :-)
First, I do not know what an RSS feed is, so what exactly is
that??? Nor, do I have a blog, nor a website. All I have is my
store on Etsy, can that be used for the near circle group, or is that
what you are talking about? Ok, Ok, enough laughing already :) I
never claimed to be computer literate. :)

The group blog looks great! When I get my shop going again, I would love to contribute -- just a
little something, some of the links are not resolving to their own urls as they have the "blogspot"
info in front of the url :)

Awesome job!

Rebecca, I've successfully joined the circle and got my urls listed.
Now how do I join NFEST and their Blog as a member?
Sorry but I've gotten a bit confused, what between the google
Needlefelters Group, nearcircle.com, NFEST and the Blog. Whew! My
brain is a bit swimmy at the moment.
I appreciate your help!
Linda :-)

Rebecca, I'm having trouble getting my nearcircle.com feed to show up
on my blog and I noticed it's not showing up on our NFEST group blog
either. Do you reckon it is something to do with nearcircle.com?

The blog looks good! With Etsy, Flickr, and my own blog (oh yeah, and
"real job") I have had no time but I'm still lurking around. Best of
luck with it and if I have anything that might help you I'll let you
know :)

I just opened a sellers shop with the name Needlefelt.etsy.com .  I tend to jump in before I really think things through, but I think it will be a great group shop.  Right now, I do not want to sell out of the shop.  But I'd like to have a shop announcement that states it is a group shop and to check out all the favorite shops listed to see our etsy needlefelters group members shops.  We will be able to make some fantastic mini galleries this way too.  I am just not sure how to deal with any selling from the shop right now and don't want to make requirements a part of our group.  I think if we all favorite that shop, it will be easier for me to go through and heart each of your shops.

Hopefully, this helps with where you were going with the blog, Rebecca?  Please let me know if there's any other ideas about this new shop.

Thanks everybody!

I think the banner you choose is beautiful. I am so very bad on the
computer, I still don't know my way around this site. So I'm doing a
little browsing to get myself more familar. I'm still somewhat new to
needlefelting but love it. Please include me in the blog. Thank you
Rebecca for all your hard work.

Hi! I'm new and will add my info to the intro thread.

But I love the blog. I also have an art blog - http://thecreatorspalette.blogspot.com
but I highlight a lot of watercolor as well as my needle felting.

I would like my info included and will work on understanding this RSS
feed / circle thing and see if I can get my blog connected.!

Thanks!

I love the new needlefelt shop as a one-stop place to get our names out there. Great work!

I would like to have a mini to feature on the blog. Here's how to do that:

You, as the owner of the shop, need to do this. Then send the code to me, and I'll put it on the blog :)

Blessings,
Rebecca

OKAY. I finally added my etsy and flickr links to the nearcircle
thing. I am still confused as to what this does. I'm sorry! Also, I
have more than just needlefelt items in my shop and on my flickr
site. For instance, I draw and paint. I think those may be showing
up because I have the feeds to my whole shop and flickr site. Is that
a problem? Or is that something I can fix.
That chat thing is really cool. I was just there and alone, but it's
great to know we could have a meeting there or something. The blog is
so interesting and looks fantastic, too. Thank you so much for your
work on this!

Same here, Gina. I totally forgot about the nearcircle site until
your email. I just joined following Rebecca's great directions (I
don't think I could have figured it out otherwise!!!), but I'm still
not clear as to what the difference is between this site and our
blogspot blog... What does this one do?
