Apparently this had something to do with the original Route 128 between
37 and 3 (now 53).

The State House in Boston has a good law library. The set you are looking
for is called Acts and Resolves. It is divided into volumes by year.

It is possible that the reference librarian may even photocopy it and fax
it to you if you ask nicely.

The road described in that act (posted separately) is currently
an unnumbered state highway connecting Route 37 and Route 53.
If it was ever given to the towns, as required by the act, the
state took it back. It appears as Route 128 on the 1941 USGS map.

Thanks. It appears that this was in fact given back to the towns, and
later taken over:

Those layout plans are a surprisingly useful service
of an otherwise pointless web site.

I confirmed that Route 6 in Provincetown really was
discontinued as a state highway. I figured that must
have been an error in the GIS files.

They also answered another question I had about the
state highway status of River Road in Florida. (It
was given to the town.)
