MassHighway is resurrecting an old plan to finish converting
Route 2 in Fitchburg to a proper freeway. In order to comply
with state policy of no capacity increases and no controversial
projects, the old plan has been scaled back. Right angle
intersections will be eliminated and shoulders widened. I
assume the gas station will have to go. The state promises
to wait at least five years to finish.

The described changes don't reach as far east as the gas station.
It sounds like it goes from rt 31 to the top of Mt Elam Hill.

There are two right-angle intersections on each side, and
rather than eliminate them, it looks like they'll have
accel/deccel lanes added, perhaps similar to the ones now
on the Abbot Rd intersection further east.
