A relative is in the Union Sq area of Allston (Boston) and will soon
get DSL.

Anyone know where the central phone office is where the signal will be
coming from?

I'm looking to try to get a rough idea how far she is from the CO.

Almost certainly the Brighton CO, in Brighton Center.

Parts of Allston are considered to be in Brookline by the phone
company, but it's probably just the parts south of Comm Ave.

Thanks.

The phone exchange is 783 so it may be safe to assume (carefully
applying that) that it comes from Brighton Center, and that is just
over a mile or so.

You can always visit http://www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco, enter your
area code and exchange, then select details of the switch.
