Do you know of any good sushi restaurants in Burlington? My sister is
at a conference next week and she wants to go for sushi and doesn't
want to head into Boston. I googled it and found two restaurants:
Maki of Japan and Sarku Japan (both on the Middlesex tpke). Have you
heard of either of these? Or would you suggest someplace else?

Thanks, Scott

I'd recommend Sushi Island in Wakefield - about fifteen minutes north up
Route 128 (I'm assuming she has a car).

397 Main Street Wakefield MA 01880

They have an incredibly cheesy web site at:
http://sushiisland.us/

The restaurant is better than the web site!

Sushi Island is the best in the area. There is also Toraya in Arlington
whic is also very good. Ginger in Bedford is another that I frequent.
Ginger might be the closest to the confence. Ask if he has anything
special behind the counter.. Edward doesn't have a specials board like
some places have, so you have to ask.

Maki of Japan is in the Burlington Mall food court. It's what you'd
expect for that.

There's a Sarku at the Woburn Mall, and it's consistent but it's not
great.

Taipei Tokyo in Woburn Center has a selection of fancy sushi on their
lunch buffet, which has fresh, small portions on the hot buffet. ($10.)

What's good for non-sushi Japanese? Tempura and sukiyaki. (Expanding
the area, anyone know what happened to, or if still exists, Aki in the
Columbia U. neighborhood?)

Website is also out of date, Sugi and Imade are no longer there.
Sugi moved South of Boston and Imade moved to Florida. I miss them
both actually, as Sugi would hook me up with freebes often, and Imade
did a great job of cooking the conger eel I caught fishing.

We are not sushi mavens so we cannot speak to the sushi question.

As for what's good for non-sushi Japanese and other-

We have gone to the Ginger Pad in Burlington many times, and have never been
disappointed. They are at Wayside Commons.

Their website www.gingerpad.com/ gives an overview, but may not be up to
date. They say "Our menu covers a wide selection of the most popular dishes
from across Asia: Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia."

I think the pdf menu is recent www.gingerpad.com/GingerPad_Menu.pdf and
does show some sushi. The website menu does not show the same items as the
pdf and may be older. We were happy with various Bento Boxes on our most
recent couple of visits.

Next we will have to try the food court at H-Mart. Perhaps your sister will
be able to find good sushi there.

As Dan in this thread mentioned, Ginger in Bedford Center is very nice
for both sushi and Japanese noodle dishes.

She could also experience the new HMart, which has a sushi counter in
its food court among the Korean and Indian food offerings, if she can
get a space in the parking lot(!) - man it's been crowded this week
around lunch time.

There are a couple of Japanese places in Lexington Center - Dabin in
Muzzey St, and Daikanyama on Waltham St. I've had very nice meals at
both.

I tried Dabin many years ago and found it ok. Its a Korean restaurant
with sushi. I have not tried Daikanyama though. Sounds like its time
for a lunch visit.
