Following is a link to a blog entry about a solar tracking contraption. Though it is designed to move a solar panel to remain pointed at the sun, it has much in common with our plan to maintain a WiFi signal to the balloon by building a mechanism to automatically aim the ground antenna. This solar tracker uses a GPS and compass sensor to calculate the angle and direction to the sun. Our wifi tracker will just substitute the live-updated balloon position for the sun's position.
Details on the build are sparse, but the author mentions future posts with more information. There's nothing earth-shattering here, but I wanted to share because I found it a little motivational to see something similar in action.
