Hi folks,

We got called out as something interesting from last year's Maker
Faire in their latest blog post:

http://makerfairenc.com/journal/2012/1/12/exhibitor-applications-meet-your-maker-coordinator.html

The post also mentions that they will so be taking applications for
this year's maker faire. Do we want to consider doing another launch
there this year? If so, how can we mix things up a bit so we're not
doing the same thing as last year?

Cheers,
Tanner

Oh man, you beat me to the punch, Tanner!

Did we ever have any luck with new-and-improved electronics?

It might be neat to be able to set up some live tracking at the booth if we have the ability to do so.  Even better if we could swing some image transmission.  Last year we got a little ad-hoc tracking, but I bet we could do better...

Anybody have any experience transmitting images, or any bright ideas how to do it?  Bet that'd be a great showoff piece!

Maker Faire isn't 'til June -- if we're going to claim that, we'll want at least a test flight to work out the kinks...

any takers?

We still have the zero-pressure "TA" balloon.

TA, if you will remember, stands for Trans-Atlantic.  Ok, ok-- could just be a day flight-- but it would be different!

I don't think we would get it back.  It wouldn't go up, pop, come down like the latex cells.  Done just right, we could try and get a floater....slow ascent....try to survive one night.....

...we were going to do that with a winter jet-stream last year, weren't we?

I'd enjoy pursuing that again--though we wouldn't get the distance letting it go in June that we would if we prepared that one for next winter...

I think I was going to do some research into how much lift we lose with overnight cooling, and then with how to build self-releasing ballat--I have citric acid around for a test 'bath bomb' on a string at least  (:   But I don't remember how it dropped off our collective radar.  (sorry if it was my fault!)

either way, we COULD launch that from the fair, though I'd think we'd need a downlink for pictures still...?
