FLOOD POTENTIAL OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEDFORD OR
110 PM PST TUE DEC 03 1996

...SOUTHERN OREGON RIVERS WILL SEE DRAMATIC RISES STARTING
TOMORROW...

ANOTHER STRONG PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO MAKE LANDFALL OVER
SOUTHWESTERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA STARTING WEDNESDAY
MORNING. STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAINS ARE FORECAST WITH THIS SYSTEM
AS IT MOVES THROUGH THE REGION. A WARM FRONT AHEAD OF THIS SYSTEM
WILL PUSH FREEZING LEVELS ABOVE 9000 FEET...MELTING SNOW ON THE
COASTAL RANGE AND CASCADE MOUNTAINS...ADDING TO THE RUNOFF FROM THIS
STORM.

AT THIS TIME...THE BULK OF THE RAINFALL IS FORECAST TO FALL DURING
WEDNESDAY MORNING AND INTO WEDNESDAY EVENING. RAINFALL AMOUNTS
DURING THIS TIME PERIOD ARE FORECAST TO RANGE FROM 1 TO 3 INCHES WEST
OF THE CASCADE MOUNTAINS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS ARE NOT FORECAST TO BE AS
IMPRESSIVE AS THE STORM EARLIER THIS MONTH...HOWEVER AS PREVIOUSLY
MENTIONED...THE RAINFALL FORECASTED IN COMBINATION WITH MELTING SNOW
HAS RAISED THE THREAT FOR FLOODING ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN OREGON AND
WESTERN SISKIYOU COUNTY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.

BASED ON THESE RAINFALL AND TEMPERATURE FORECASTS...RIVER STAGES HAVE
THE POSSIBILITY OF REACHING OR EXCEEDING BANKFULL LEVELS ALONG THE
SOUTH OREGON COAST...AND THE COQUILLE BASIN. THE UMPQUA RIVER WILL
LIKELY SEE RISES OF 4 TO 10 FEET...BUT AT THIS TIME THE UMPQUA RIVER
IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN BELOW FLOOD STAGE. THE ROGUE AND KLAMATH
RIVERS WILL SEE RISES...BUT AGAIN ARE FORECAST TO REMAIN BELOW FLOOD
STAGE AT THIS TIME. THE LOWER ROGUE AND ILLINOIS RIVERS WILL SEE
IMPRESSIVE RISES.

A FLOOD WATCH WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED FOR RIVERS AND STREAMS IN
COOS...CURRY...AND WESTERN SISKIYOU COUNTIES OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. A
FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN AND AROUND THE WATCH
AREA. RECREATION INTERESTS AND PERSONS LIVING ALONG RIVERS AND
STREAMS IN SOUTHWESTERN OREGON AND WESTERN SISKIYOU COUNTY NEED TO BE
AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND SHOULD PLAN ACCORDINGLY.

BULLETIN...IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
FLOOD WATCH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEDFORD OR
1220 PM PST WED DEC 04 1996

...A FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES IN EFFECT FOR SOUTHWEST OREGON THIS
AFTERNOON...

...THIS FLOOD WATCH IS TO BE EXTENDED THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND...

A FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES IN EFFECT THIS AFTERNOON FOR COOS AND CURRY
COUNTIES AND WILL BE EXTENDED THROUGH THE WEEKEND TILL SUNDAY. A
FLOOD WATCH MEANS FLOODING IS POSSIBLE WITHIN AND AROUND THE WATCH

BOTH RADAR AND SATELLITE IMAGERY INDICATE WIDESPREAD RAIN IS
CURRENTLY FALLING THROUGHOUT SOUTHWEST OREGON AND NORTHEASTERN
CALIFORNIA. A STRONG WEATHER SYSTEM IS MOVING THROUGH THE PACIFIC
NORTHWEST TODAY AND TONIGHT. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WITH THIS SYSTEM IS
EXPECTED TO BRING RIVERS AND SMALL STREAMS AT OR ABOVE BANKFULL
LEVELS STARTING THIS EVENING.

THE CURRENT WEATHER SYSTEM WILL BE MOVING OUT OF THE AREA LATE
THURSDAY BUT YET ANOTHER SYSTEM IS FORECAST TO IMPACT THE AREA LATE
FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY. THE FRONTAL SYSTEM IS ANTICIPATED TO MOVE
OVER SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BRINGING MORE HEAVY
RAIN. THIS ADDITIONAL RAIN IN COMBINATION WITH THE ALREADY SATURATED
SOILS WILL BRING THE THREAT OF MORE FLOODING...THUS THE FLOOD WATCH
WILL BE EXTENDED THROUGH SUNDAY.

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR SMALL STREAMS
AND RIVERS TO REACH OR EXCEED FLOOD LEVELS. AT THIS TIME THE COQUILLE
RIVER AND SOUTH COAST SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS ARE THE AREAS UNDER
THE GREATEST THREAT. RESIDENTS LIVING ALONG RIVERS AND SMALL STREAMS

...MORE RAIN HEADING FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
LATE FRIDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

A SERIES OF STORMS WILL MOVE THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST LATER
