an advocacy and referral organization for military women. This organization began in an effort to address the needs of women who have been sexually assaulted in the military. We have been extremely successful in promoting the culture of the military as it relates to transitioning women who are abused back into civilian life after serving in the armed forces. Our “Women Veteran’s Day Tribute” of 2006 was instrumental in allowing individuals who were sexually assaulted to share their stories and for providing support and encouragement to other women who have been withdrawn and in some cases left feeling alienated by the beauracracy and the tedious process that exist as a result of these experiences through our present system. We believe that Philadelphia has begun to realize the importance of supporting our organization in making a significant impact in what is one of our nations most quieted but extremely complex and life-changing dilemma any woman can experience. We continue to reach out to other women groups with a desire of providing hope and healing to hurting women in Philadelphia and our country. We are grateful for the support that we have received to date from the WURD 900am Radio Family, in particular to Eleanor Dezzi who has allowed Cathy Santos, Founder of the NAWV to share information and provide much-needed support and resources to listeners of this great program on veteran’s issues in Philadelphia and the country. Also, to our elected officials, State Representative Jewel Williams, State Senator Shirley Kitchen, who were "sensitive to our cry" and to members of Philadelphia City Council who have provided citations which were presented to extraordinary women veterans demonstrating their recognition for the outstanding sacrifices and commitment of deserving individuals for their acts of sincere patriotism. We also are especially grateful to Channel 6 News Reporter Erin O’Hearn and Neighborhood Leader’s staff writer, Arlene Edmunds - for coverage on this event and the National Alliance of Women Veterans organization, The Philadelphia Tribune, Comcast Cable TVs Dr. Faye Wilson and special thanks to Bishop Ernest C. Morris, Pastor of Mount Airy Church of God In Christ. _______________________________________________________________ Please check out phillyvet.blogspot.com for upcoming event information.
NAWV Members and Supporters:
We would like to welcome our new chapter: New York - National Alliance of Women Veterans, Director - Rosalie Cooper
We are grateful to the women veterans of New York who have chosen to join us with increasing the awareness of our existence and for providing much-needed support in addressing the many issues that we face. We believe that the women veterans of this country provide strength to each other and support to those who have been traumatized from the war and unfortunate experiences while serving in the military.
We invite women to organize and continue to support one another. We also would like to invite women veterans all across the country to reply with a desire to share their stories to send an email with a one page biography of not more than 300 words to be considered for documentary in the "Veterans History Project". Please submit this information to nawv2006@hotmail.com.
Thank you, and remember - WOMEN VETERANS, "WE SERVED, TOO!"
