Hello Nejc,

I am copying the Nairobi Python User group

Hey Christian,

I wanted to see your "IW:LEARN 7 Years of Plone" talk on PloneConf, but it was just before my talk
and I was (of course) doing some last-minute touches based on ideas gathered in the two days before.
I wanted to meet you in person but the conference just flew by in an instant!

Yes I know how it is ;)

I'm writing to you because I'm coming to Kenya in two weeks and I'd like to meet up with local
Plone/Python people, maybe do a short event or sprint or something similar. Maybe even run
some Plone trainings if there is interest.

Hello List,
how about this?

anyway we did not have a meet up for quite some time ;)

My schedule is completely blank so far, the only thing I know is that I want to spend at a few days
in Nairobi and maybe go to a safari.

What are the dates, when are you coming?

If there is something Python/Plone related going on I'll stay
longer in Nairobi, otherwise I'll probably head to the beach. Is there anything specific you would
recommend I go visit?

Hello Zupan / Christian,
I'm a member of the community. Currently I'm working with the University of Nairobi, in a research lab called C4DLab. Among the things I do is to organize for relevant events for students. For instance this Saturday, we will be having a Python Bootcamp from 9am to 4pm.

I am more than willing to host this event being proposed by Zupan at the School of Computing (Chiromo). So easily accessible from the CBD, less than 10min drive.

The Satuday of 17th November (9-4pm) or Wednesday 21st (2-5pm) are most favourable timings depending on the calendar of the school.

Let me know so that I set the process of securing the venue.

Regards,

Nandaa

can anyone recommend an affordable but nice hostel/hotel to stay in while in Nairobi?
And anything that is worth visiting/seeing?

Thanks,

Hotel, I hear people talk of Sankara, http://www.sankara.com/ but this one you've to ask more.

Places worth visiting, I'll be selfish, please visit School of Computing & Informatics, University of Nairobi. You could take a tour around Nairobi tech hubs like ihub.co.ke, 88mph.ac, etc. You can visit our beautiful Parks, etc. Nairobi is exciting, come and experience it. See more: http://www.magicalkenya.com/ :-)

Yes, we can have it that Saturday 17th. Whole day? 9am-4pm... Let me get the agenda details so I can send the word around.

Do we have enough talks to last for the entire day? Or do you had something else in mind for the agenda?

Hi all,

so, Saturday 10am at School of Computing, right? Where exactly and how do I find you?
I'm traveling with my girlfriend and we're staying at the YMCA hostel. Is it OK to just
walk from the hostel to the meetup venue?

Do we have an agenda for the event up somewhere? Are we gonna have talks or
something else? I have a few topics I can talk about if there is interest.

And last, but definitely not the least, which prepaid SIM card shall I get? I only need
data, if I need to call someone I can use Skype or sth. Which operators are considered
to have good coverage? Where can I buy a SIM?

See you all very soon,
Nejc

I know not much about the event but you can get a Safaricom or Airtel SIM, coverage is almost the same in Nairobi. Safcom might be better at some places outside Nairobi.

Anyone else interested in presenting something tomorrow? We can have "show and tell" session where anyone can demo some cool code they wrote or new library they found.

Looking forward to a good event tomorrow. You may RSVP and get directions to the venue here -> http://c4dlab-python1.eventbrite.com/

It's quite a walk from the YMCA to chiromo lane

@Ashok are you coming? iirc the YMCA is on your way.

I have some topics too, I guess this is organized like a Barcamp, Unconference
so anybody can come up with his/her topics.

I would get safaricom apart from having the best coverage the prepaid also offers 3G
at decent speeds.

The sims are sold in safaricom outlets (easy to identify, big green signs)
and in most supermarkets, if your search fails just ask someone on the street.

@Anthony did you plan for a Mini Sprint? I have an  idea for a link checker
server that highlights broken links inside a website, which could be implemented
in a couple of hours and your students could take ownership and add
features successively

Hi all,
Hi :)  I think from here henceforth, I'm going to assume some benevolent dictatorship ;) I'll be your official host this weekend.
so, Saturday 10am at School of Computing, right? Where exactly and how do I find you?
I'm traveling with my girlfriend and we're staying at the YMCA hostel. Is it OK to just
walk from the hostel to the meetup venue?
Saturday 10am it is. If you are residing at YMCA, along State House Rd, I can come and pick you at 9.00am so that we walk with you to Chiromo; as I show you around along the way. See map, though we will not use the route suggested by Google Maps, we will go through the University of Nairobi internal roads. When you get your SIM card, call me on this number +254 728 590 438 (I've no problem sharing it on a public forum like this one, its public on my website too)

Do we have an agenda for the event up somewhere? Are we gonna have talks or
something else? I have a few topics I can talk about if there is interest.
For the agenda, I think we can leave it totally up to you to "run the show". We were having a Python 101 Bootcamp which we pushed to 24th November. Therefore, send me your proposed agenda. The only thing I can easily add is a quick dive to Python, in case we have people new to Python attending.

And last, but definitely not the least, which prepaid SIM card shall I get? I only need
data, if I need to call someone I can use Skype or sth. Which operators are considered

Take any, preferably Zain since it has international coverage, and is less dominant. However, the one easily accessible is Safaricom.

See you all very soon,
Sure, see you soon sir! Let me know in case of any queries. Are you already in? And can we catch up on Friday at iHub, where you could also meet other interesting folks around?
