I have been looking for a decent task manager for months and was
previously using a combination of Chandler (PC) + Palm TX + BlackBerry
Pearl + Paper notes to manage my tasks and was forever getting in a
muddle. I recently downloaded MLO and, so far, I am very impressed. It
would be great if there was a BlackBerry app or at least a way to sync
to my BlackBerry.
One thing that has occurred to me: The app could be written in Java (I
think that's what it is, anyway), meaning that it would be possible to
write one app (with a few tweaks for full BlackBerry compatibility)
which could support a wide variety of phones. Opera Mini is a
successful example of this approach.
If so, (assuming you using, or have a copy of Outlook), you could sync
your tasks from MLO to Outlook, and then on to the Blackberry. That's
what I did when I was using a Palm TX. Now I'm using Pocket PC, so
enjoying the benefits of having the MLO Client directly on the
Device. The Outlook method is definitely doable however, assuming the
Blackberry has the software to support syncing. You would not have
all the feature set of MLO, but you would at least be able to track
your todos, as well as create tasks for later processing and
organizing in the MLO Desktop client.

and when it not work on the iphone --> no blackberry version?!
I mean a blackberry version of mlo is for the market (and your
bussiness) better, why - (my) 5 arguments:
1) there are not gtd/todo applikations for blackberry (i find no...)
2) many people in jobs use a blackberry and not a iphone
3) many iphone user used mac-os and not windows for desktop-mlo
(Release MLO Desktop for MAC?!)
4) there a realy good gtd/todo applikations for iphone (thinks, ...)
5) and finally - i need/dream of/wish a blackberry mlo version for my
blackberries ...
I've been using MLO for some time now but I've changed my Windows
smartphone for a BlackBerry, I too would love to have my MLO on my
smartphone again, for if I can't I'd have to find another software
solution, and I really don't want to do that. So, and just for the
record: PLEASE BUILD A BB VERSION!! Thanks
Just one comment on this. While I am a Blackberry user right now I
have a very good experience of syncing MLO to Outlook and then to the
Blackberry which allows a nice action list complete with context
filtering. While it would be nice to have a Blackberry app I'm sure
that the limited development resources available would be better spent
on an iPhone implementation.
The day that MLO comes out for iPhone I will purchase an iPod Touch to
replace my aging PDA and carry that around along with the Blackberry.
If you develop OLM for the BB, you will be the first outline task
application that is native to both the BB and the MS OS desktop as far
as I can tell. Add to that the clean and simple OLM sync with Outlook
and you will have an unparalleled product. There are a lot of BB
business people out there looking for a task outline application if
you search the web for a such a beast. I have been looking for over 3
years now and constantly see posts bemoaning how worthless the task
function is on the BB and are begging for someone to come up with a
product like the Bonzai for the Palm. I owned Bonzai back when I had
a Palm and it was great but Natara looks to have no intention of
developing for the BB. OLM is better anyway but shares the same lack
of a BB app. I also used todomatrix but navigation is just plain
clunky plus I do not want to work off of the web for a desktop version
not to mention it sends intrusive messages regarding access to the
website.
The trouble with BB tasks begins with the worthlessness of the Outlook
task function. Now that I have figured out through the advanced
Outlook Sync feature to sync only the action items on the task list
view, the integration with Outlook is pretty damn good and allows me
to sync those tasks with categories/contexts with the BB. But
navigating and filtering tasks by category on the BB is slow and
visually horrible - it is virtually unusable. I really don't need the
full functionality of the OLM desktop on my BB. I primarily want an
outline view that can expand and collapse - everything else will be
frosting on the cake. I am a project manager and a simple task list
is just too unwieldy.
Most of the iPhone market is made up by consumers using it as a web
toy and competing in that app market will be like shouting across a
packed football stadium to a friend on the other side. Take care of
us in the BB business market. I can't believe you won't be quickly
rewarded for your efforts.

please used this "good" time to talk about a blackberry version of MLO
and
get your request of blackberry version here. Andrey is thinking about
a BB version.
To use jointly to run a chance first: blackberry then iphone...
I think there are also cases for the Palm Pre and Android versions of
MLO too.
I appreciate this is a very fragmented approach if supporting multiple
mobile platforms for MLO but there is no clear winner yet in the the
mobile market.
Win Mobile - I think this platform should get continued support as
there are so many devices already and Windows Mobile Version 7 ,
although a year off, seems to be Microsofts big push to capture market
share back from Apple.
Iphone - has lots of task managers already available - though only one
other actually priortises your to do list (LB), the rest are very
basic. "Things" is the most popular but is basic.
Palm Pre - people seem impressed with the new OS, it seems to be
taking off with nearly 1 million application downloads already. The
advantage of getting in early I think is an argument here.
Android - also seems to be taking off , with lots of handsets coming
out this year.
Blackberry - lots of users though many of the devices are locked down
I suspect as they are in corporate use - I suspect these types of
users do not buy applications online.

I'll put in my vote for Android... I am very optimistic about the long-term outlook for the Android OS. But currently, there is not even an outline app for my new G1.... grrrr!

In truth there is a 3rd party workaround for this problem, which I didn't immediately think to ask about.
I have always had a bit of a love affair with linux, while not actually marrying it... the open-source aspect of Android appealed to me. Not to mention the larger screen. The G1 was $50 less than the BB model I was looking at, the screen is larger, I loved the geek factor of the barcode scanner which can be used to compare prices, shazam (tag & identify songs), and numerous other free applications in the Android Marketplace... they even have a bio-password keeper which scans your eye/iris - I haven't tried that one yet.
But the lack of even a decent outliner program is killing me... I am about to try exporting MLO to a spreedsheet, that way at least I'll have access to my MLO lists on the Android... I've been using MLO for 4+ years, but never upgraded from desktop version 1.9x.
The two GTD Android apps I've found thusfar do not look as if they will ever be full-fledged PM programs.... but they do offer the ability to set GPS locations for contexts. I have not kept current with the most recent updates of MLO-PPC, maybe this is now a feature of MLO-PPC?
Bottomline, I am probably not your target market, since I am too cheap to pay even for MLO upgrades ;-)
But... from what I saw this week, I'd say BB is much moreso your target market than the I-phone or the Android, but I can't help but wonder how difficult it maybe to develop a MLO app for the BB, since spreedsheats seem to have been a hurdle for BB & still are not supported w/o a third-party app.
In the US blackberry is THE standard for business professionals and BB enterprise and business users are willing to pay for their apps... perhaps BB purposefully did not provide native support for spreedsheats to give a bone to their 3rd-party app developers?
I personally think Android will ONE DAY give BB a run for it's money, but that day is not yet today... jumping aboard the Android platform now may allow MLO to position itself as the killer work-production app, seriously, timing is EVERYTHING !
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the Android platform has a exclusive deal with T-Mobile. They are the only carrier offering the Android platform in the US right now, because they are the 1st to offer Android.
I-Phone, by contrast, is exclusively offered by AT&T for the foreseeable future... it's hot, no doubt, but it's not necessarily a "business tool"... but - I could be wrong, I didn't look very closely at the I-Phone since we were not looking to switch carriers.
Still for creative Mac-eccentric groups MLO may have a strong GTD, 43folders following for an I-Phone version.
Anyhoo, that's my analysis.

Another note, a few years back, when I was following the MLO-PPC group rather closely, several ppl left the group saying their company was switching to BB. You may want to do some research to see what the migration trends maybe.... I think you will find more migrations to BB than to any other platform.

I put my vote in for Blackberry too. I believe Blackberry is the best
tool for the trusted system we use in GTD, and MLO is the best list
manager I've seen. In my opinion, the combination of the two would be
the best solution available for implementing GTD in someone's life.
BlackBerry, PalmPre, Google Andriod, Noika SmartPhones, Windows Mobile and
the IPhone - that's six platforms to develop for with a separate code base
for each. There is no winning for Andrey in this situation unless he's got 7
development teams.
Rather than try to fill in all the platforms maybe it would easier to
provide a web based app - that might also help people who occasionaly have
to work from computers that aren't their own. While Andrey's dev team
doesn't rival Google's - nonetheless its an example. I use gmail on the
IPhone in preference to the IPhone email application.

I vote for Andrey developing for the platform that will make him the
most money. Inderectly this will get us all more of what we want
because then he can afford to grow the company. I'm guessing this is
the iPhone and with the new Blackberry AppStore helping to push things
along BB is probably next.
