Hi,

I wanted to know if it's possible to have tasks assigned a certain
context be "hidden" from the To Do list when they're closed. Case in
point:

I use MLO for tasks at my day job. My hours there are 9am-5pm M-F
therefore I only want tasks with that context to show up on the To Do
list at that time. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it? When
I try to set a context "open" time, it doesn't seem to effect the
task's visibility on the To Do list when the context is "closed".

Thanks.

In ToDo views Filter section, there is a check box right under
contexts for "Include Closed". I think you just want that box
unchecked in your ToDo view to do what you want.

Otherwise, you will see the task in the ToDo view regardless of
whether the context is in an opened or closed hour...

That's how I thought it should work. Problem is checking/unchecking
that box doesn't effect the To Do list view. Is this possibly a bug?
I suppose it would be need to be recreated by Andrey/
mylifeorganized.net to be considered an "official" bug.

It works as expected for me. Do your tasks have other contexts?  If a task has any open context it will still be shown, even if other contexts are closed, I believe.

There is a 'bug' - when you use F8 to adjust the open/closed times for one
or more contexts, and click close, there is no automatic change in the
ToDo view. You have to hit F5 to refresh the view which will then take
account of the adjusted open/closed times.

Andrey has acknowledged this as a bug and I believe it will be fixed in the
next release.

Hope this helps.

I tried it this way and there still isn't any change to the To Do view
after hitting F5 (context is closed and assigned at the time). I have
version 3.0.1. Is there a newer version out there?

Did you see the message about the Open/Closed colors in contexts being misleading?   I can't remember who / when that discussion was but it can definitely be confusing.

No, the tasks only have one context (the one that's closed).

I haven't seen that Lisa. But that's the least of my problems. If I
could just get the open/closed functionality of the contexts to work
at all I'd be a happy camper. Does that functionality work for you?

The open/closed context functionality works exactly as I expect it
should, and exactly as you expect it should as well. For example, I
have a context called @Errands that has open hours from 8am - 9pm. So
if I have an active task called "pick up milk" for instance, with a
context of @Errands, that task will show up in my ToDo view from 8am -
9pm, but will disappear from that view once my system clock moves out
of the open range (I may have to refresh the view). If my system clock
is in the closed period of time, I can get the "pick up milk" task to
appear in my ToDo view by checking the "Include closed" checkbox. If I
uncheck that box, the task disappears from my ToDo view. This is
exactly the functionality that you expect, but for some reason you are
not getting.

I can suggest 2 things. First, open the Manage Contexts dialog box,
select the context of interest, select the tab "Hours", and then
finally select the button "Show as text...". This will open a message
box that shows precisely the open hours for that context. If you do
this, you will at least confirm that you have defined your open and
closed hours as you think you have. Second, if you have defined your
open/closed hours properly, but still are not getting the
functionality that other users are getting, I would suggest that you
send your data file to Andrey to ensure that you have set your
contexts up properly before concluding that there is a bug in the open/
closed functionality.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it works exactly as expected.  The message I am referring to was one on the message boards.  When you open the Manage Contexts dialog, and you select your context, and you choose the "Hours" tab, the selection model is unexpected to some.  You are actually selecting the closed hours by default, but it is easy to click "Always Closed" and then select only the hours you want it to be open.  To see if you have it the way you want it, hover over that time slot and it will show you a dialog saying the time and whether it is open or closed at that time.    The colors are open, and the dark is closed.

What have you got the Action filter set to? If it isn't set to Active,
try setting it to this.

This functionality has been in MLO for the last few years and hasn't really
changed and there have been no reports of any problems in this forum so it
feels to me that it is something that you are doing rather than a bug in
MLO. I use it all the time and other than the problem with needing to hit
F5, it works fine for me.

I looked at the hours my context is open as text as you suggested.
Everything is okay with that. I've just now sent an email to Andrey
to get his advice. My problem seems to quite unique, as I'm pretty
confident I have everything set up properly.

I'm a professional computer support technician, so it would be quite
embarrassing if this problem is user error. LOL!

Action filter is set to Active. I agree that my situation is very
strange, but we'll see what the solution ends up being....
