MLO-PPC beta with ActiveSync to MLO Desktop is available for public.
Since it is still beta I would recommend creating backup of your data
files before using them with this version.
Installation and configuration instructions.
===============================
1. Download the installation files
------------------------------------------------
Download the latest version of the following files
1) mlo_beta.zip - Latest beta of MLO desktop which works with PPC sync
http://www.myLifeOrganized.net/downloads/files/beta/mlo_beta.zip
2) mlo-desktop-ActiveSync-setup.exe - MLO ActiveSync desktop provider
http://www.myLifeOrganized.net/downloads/files/beta/mlo-desktop-ActiveSync-setup.exe
3) mlo-ppc-setup.exe - MLO PocketPC edition installation with
ActiveSync module
http://www.myLifeOrganized.net/downloads/files/beta/mlo-ppc-setup.exe
2. Install MLO Desktop beta
-------------------------------------------
1) Unzip content of mlo_beta.zip to any folder on your Desktop
computer.
3. Install or Update MLO PocketPC on your device
------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Perform soft reset of your PocketPC first. This will release system
dll which is used in Today->New: command (MLO Rapid Task Entry dialog).
Note: This step is only needed if you already have MLO-PPC installed on
your device and would like to update it with new version.
2) Select File->Exit in MLO-PPC to close application on your device.
Make sure that you really closed the application, not minimized it.
3) Cradle your device.
4) Run mlo-ppc-setup.exe on the desktop and follow the instructions.
5) The message that DevMLOSync.dll is in use appears on your device
asking to close the application using it. This is OK since AcitveSync
uses this dll.
6) Uncradle your device. This will release DevMLOSync.dll.
7) Click Yes in the dialog box on our device to update released dll.
This will install/update both the latest version of MLO application and
MLO ActiveSync module on your device
4. Install or Update MLO ActiveSync Desktop Provider
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Uncradle your device
2) Close ActiveSync window. (This is needed to release all used dlls).
3) Run mlo-desktop-ActiveSync-setup.exe and follow the instructions.
This will install/update new version of MLO ActiveSync Desktop Provider
on your desktop computer.
5. MLO Sync Configuration
--------------------------------------
Once you installed all needed components you should configure MyLife
Organized synchronization process:
1. Uncradle and cradle the device so that the newly installed
components were recognized by ActiveSync manager.
2. Open Active Sync dialog on desktop, click menu Tools->Options and
make sure the MLOSync is checked on Sync Options tab.
3. Select MLOSync and click Settings button
4. Define the pairs of MLO files to be synchronized. To do so, please
click File Mappings button in the MLOSync Settings Dialog and define
the file pairs and synchronization options.
For example here are the steps of how to sync your desktop file
MyTasks.ml to new file on MLO-PPC:
4.1. In Add New Mapping group select MyTasks.ml as a Desktop file
4.2. In Device file combo box. select <New File...>
4.3. Enter folder and file name to create new file on PPC
4.4. Click Add Mapping and then OK
5. If you check the Enable logging check box in the MLOSync Settings
Dialog this will turn on MLO ActiveSync logging on both desktop and PPC
side. Note: the speed of sync is slower with Log enabled.
6. Uncradle and cradle the device so that the newly installed
components were recognized by ActiveSync manager.
6. How to perform sync
-------------------------------------
Once you configured the pairs of MLO files to be synchronized
ActiveSync will perform synchronization every time you cradle your
device and/or click Sync button in Active Sync window.
Thanks,
Andrey.
Just downloaded and installed. I had been using the latest private
betas of the PPC Activesync. It seems that after installing the latest
desktop beta, all of my tasks have change their importance and urgency
to normal. I see there is now an option in the settings to reset all of
your tasks to normal, but it seems that the file convesion must have
done this also.
Does that sound possible? Just thought I would let you know. I am going
to change them all back to their prior values but it's going to be
quite a chore...

Can you explain what has changed in the calculation?

File conversion should not do anything with importance and urgency
parameters. The range has been changed though, so "1" for Importance is
Normal (not Max) now. See below for more details.
>Can you explain what has changed in the calculation?
Bob Pankratz (the author of the to-do ordering algorithm) proposed to
change range for importance and urgency parameters
In old version the range was:
Importance 0..1 (default 1)
Urgency 1..2 (default 1)
New version:
Importance 0..2 (default 1)
Urgency 0..2 (default 1)
This is why "1" is Normal for both parameters now and it is default.
The calculations have not been changed. Bob confirmed that everything
should work. If you see any significant problems with calculations we
should try to contact Bob.
Andrey.
Yes you should check manually that your sorting methods are the same on
Desktop and PPC.
We might need to sync these parameters also in the next releases.
Andrey.
1. The conversion DID change every one of my max importance items to
Normal. Also, any other items that were less than max are now that much
less than normal.
2. I think we need to reopen the discussion of how the algorithm is
working. Changing the max importance from 1 to 2 has for some reason
completely changed how my to do list is working. If you would like, I
can send you a backup of a pre-conversion file and talk to you offline
about how it was set and what the new settings have changed.
Specifically, the lead time priority/urgency boost seems to be much
more pronounced now. Even when I tweak the values in the computed score
priority, the only value that seems to make much of a difference is the
weekly goal value. Completely moving the slider back and forth for
Start Date and Due Date does very little, if anything, to the to do
list.
--David
Here is the values according to task statistics:
Importance=2.0355
Urgency=1.5355
Importance & Urgency=2.0355
How can Imp & Urg = the same as just importance? I have verified this
is the value that MLO is using to determine where to put the task in
the list. What is strange, however, is if I change the settings to just
use Urgency, MLO uses the 1.5355 value to place the item. If I just use
importance, MLO uses the 2.0355 value to place the item. According to
my reading of the documentation, it says "Score=(ImportanceScore *
UrgnecyScore) + StartDate Score Contribution + DueDate Score
Contribution "
Does this mean that Importance should only be 1.5 and Urgency 1.0 and
the combined score would then get the Date influences added to it? IN
any case, it appears the Importance AND the urgency is being affected
by dates, even though the documentation seems to imply that only the
Urgency would be affected ("If the MLO preferences are set to order the
To-do List by "Urgency" or by "Importance and Urgency" (that is, if
Urgency is to be considered and not just Importance), the start and due
dates are used to weight the score of each task based on the nearness
to today's date of the dates in question. ")
Can you look into this Andrey and perhaps explain what is going on?

Andrey.
First I should not that I never really wanted this change but so many
people believed they wanted it that I went I head and reviewed. But it
does appear I missed a required adjustment. My appologies folks; I have
been overly absent. But this should be an easy fix.
The brief check I did on the change was to see what sort of
"compounding" error we'd get if the range was change to be 0-2. I
determined that the controls placed in for urgency would balance out
the problem and also apply to the importnace calcs. The change does
give the right side of the equation a multiplicative boasting property
that people would quickly adapt to... 2x2x2x2 can get big fast and
stomp out other things; but it real execution it worked pretty well.
Given what you just posted I realize I did not check to see if the
section that combines the two into "importance & urgency would be
affected." reflecting on that; there might be a conditional "if
statment" working off the min/max later in the algorithm that I didn't
modify.
I would have expected that if you treate the importance slider as if
only the left half existed; then you'd be able to exactly reproduce the
old results. BUT that does seem to be what you described.
Andrey please mail me the current delphi source code for the compuation
and I will review it this evening and get you an answer; in the form of
corrected code that can go out in a quick beta.
I know for a fact that the range on one of the weights needs to be
adjust (scaled upward) that simply slipped my mind; and david has
clearly found that problem, I also want to review something else that
comes to mind that isn't worth explaning at the moment.
Andrey.
There you can find the link to new beta.
Andrey.
:05/01/2006 14:01:36.952 WARNING: Object type 'MLOSync' is not

The error message says it all. You have to install the latest MLO PPC
Beta. The setup will install the MLOSync ActiveSync object handler on
the PPC side.
