MWCCC,
As many of you probably saw, the allocation of nationals starting
spots was released today. You can find the details by conference
linked from http://www.usacycling.org/events/2009/collegiateroad/.
Each conference is given a certain number of starting spots in each
event, and may set its own method of dividing them up between teams
and individuals except that the first place qualifying team can start
6 in the road race and 4 in the criterium (assuming the team has that
many eligible riders) and there must be at least one individual
qualifier. For the MWCCC, other team qualifiers will be (initially)
allowed to start 4 in the road race and 3 in the criterium. For spots
that will not be used (either teams not using all of its spots or
individuals not going to nationals), spots will be assigned based on
individual rankings with no team exceeding 6 in the road race and 4 in
the criterium. What this means if that a team's 5th best rider is
ranked above the next individual rider, the team will get an
additional road race start.
The number of qualifying spots each conference gets is based on the
number of annual licenses in the conference the previous year, with
Division 1 and Division 2 separate.
Division 1
The MWCCC can start 24 in the road race and 18 in the criterium. This
will be divided into four teams, five individuals for both the road
race and criterium, and one individual for the road race only. Again,
the first place team in the qualifying rankings will get to start 6 in
the road race and 4 in the criterium; the other teams will get to
start 4 in the road race and 3 in the criterium.
Division 2
The MWCCC can start 22 in the road race and 17 in the road race. This
will be divided into four teams and four individuals (for both the
road race and criterium.) As in D1, the first place team in the
qualifying rankings will get to start 6 in the road race and 4 in the
criterium; the other teams will get to start 4 in the road race and 3
in the criterium.
Let me know if there are any questions.
