Hi,

I think it will be a good thing for Mvp4g to have a logo. In
particular, it will allow me to add Mvp4g to the GWT gallery (http://
gwtgallery.appspot.com/).

I may have skills with GWT but not for making logo. Is anyone willing
to create one?

Thanks,
Pierre

Hi Pierre,
I can arrange some logo by my employee. Just say what kind of logo you
would have to get.

Luke

Hi we have first drafts of the logo: http://tinyurl.com/3a4vygx

Please check them and say which are cool. If all proposals are bad let
us know, we can provide more proposals if this are insufficient. :-)

It's great you have someone working on it, thanks a lot :)

My first idea of the logo was to have something simple (like Spring or
Struts) that could reflect that Mvp4g is simple and robust.

The logo you provided look good. My favorites are 1, 4 & 5. The only
things I would just suggest are
-maybe the font could be change so that it's easier to read Mvp4g
-the sketch/drawing effect could be removed to give a better idea of
solidity.

What do you guys think?

Luke, thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

Hi Pierre and others,
Yet another proposals + first logos without sketch effect:

From the new ones, my favorite would be the first one with the bottom
font. I think it's simple and easy to read. We could keep this font
and maybe add a symbol near it (the same way as spring does it). For
the other ones, I think it's a little bit hard to read Mvp4g.

What do you think?

Thanks again for your effort, it helps me a lot.

From an artistic point of view I really like them (my favorite would
be nr5. from the first link, the blue one) , but I agree with Pierre
that it is hard to read the text on first sight. I also like the
running guy from 8 and 9. What about putting the running guy to the
left and the text in a less artistic/better readable font (like the
one form 1) next to it? just my ideas...

Thanks for the feedback. I think it's a good idea. Maybe we could have
the bag of the running man to be red (to have a link to the GWT logo).
Luke, do you think this could be done?

Thanks,
Pierre

I like them all quite a bit. They look a lot more professional than my
handmade GWTP logo. :)

How do u like a tree ? main trunk being the main event bus, each significant branch being the submodule with its own event bus, ... leaves being views ... and stems being presenters .... I dont know ....:) ... I am just floating ideas :) ... or just the name MVP4G in block letters in a plain background should also be fine ... afterall,.... its simplicity and robustness is what made it so popular. Moreover, the name mvp4g itself has become very popular .. I would take advantage of that rather than giving it an avatar.

DK, the tree could be a good idea. Thanks Harald, your logo looks
really great.

There are a lot of good choices and it's going to be hard to pick one
but at least the Mvp4g logo will look great :)

The more I look at them and the hardest it is to pick one. I think I
start to really like the running man. Right now, my top 3 would be:
9 (second link), Harald's logo, 5 (second link)

Maybe it could be interesting to have a draft for Dennis & DK ideas.
By the way is there any color you think we should keep for the logo?

Thanks again all for your help and ideas.

Thanks, if I have some time left, I'll try some other idea. What I was
wondering, is there some kind of slogan or catchphrase for the
project? Like, "Nike - just do it"? Others like Spring Roo are also in
search for one: http://forum.springsource.org/showthread.php?t=88632

Hence, what I'm thinking of as a logo is an "abstract tree" on the
left, then the letters MVP4G and down below something like: "GWT's
Spinal Cord".

Ok, here is one with an abstract tree and the spinal chord phrase:

I can add some shading, background, and the border is unnecessary, but
I think you get the idea. If someone wants to play with the svg file
just drop me a note.

oops, had to do a version 2.1, the proportions of the last one were
wrong when you scale it down. this one looks fine when it is smaller:

Hi Harald,

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. The 2 new logo are really great, they reflect well the idea of event bus. Adding a slogan is also a good idea and GWT's Spinal cord sounds good (we could start a new discusion for this).

Thanks for the great work,
Pierre

I liked this one as instead of explicitly writing "G" we are using the logo, which seem similar to the GWT logo.

"GWT's Spinal Cord" seems good but funny too at the same time. What about "Easing GWT", just my thoughts.

I really like Harald's last logo too. But I vote to make it a bit lighter, maybe by removing two branches of the tree and choose a lighter font for MVP. The basic idea is to reflect the fact mvp4g is a really lightweight framework to use, it allows to implement mvp pattern with few annotations and interfaces!

It's also why I like a lot the Lukasz's running man logo, but my first impression is he runs away, maybe simply because he goes to the left. By convention to move forward he should run to the right toward MVP4G text.

For the slogan, MVP4G has already one: "A framework to build a gwt application the right way", shorter it could be "gwt the right way". It could seem a bit pretentious but I think it's true ;)

Thx, yes, there are some variables that can be changed, this is one of
them. I'm open for feedback, of course ;)
I tried with less branches, but it doesn't look good (for me) .. but i
can do some variations. Yes, the font is nothing special, I made it a
bit thicker because the logo at the google code page (top left) has
only 55px height and therefore everything looks much smaller than in
the blown up version.

My other idea was "Wire Up GWT". We should make a thread for that, but
anyways, the first version will be without a slogan, i.e. a clean
version, and we can add something later.

I like the idea about the backbone. In the logos where the letter "G"
comes before the name (mvp4g) I would use the gwt toolbox icon (the
red one) instead of the letter "G". Otherwise it could be
misinterpreted as "GMVP4G". And I personally think it would look
better (and more professional) with less colors on the dots. What do
you think?

Hi,

Thanks all for your idea. Thanks Lukasz for the new logo, they look good.

I think ideas given by Dennis and Arnaud are also good.

What I would suggest, it's by the end of the day, we select the 4 best ones and then start an online pool to choose the one we like the most. And then we can improve the one we picked.

For now, I think the 4 best ones are:
-the running man, second link from Lukask (http://img684.imageshack.us/i/logo2bk.jpg/, image 9)
-Harald's logo with Mvp4g on the right (http://img521.imageshack.us/i/mvp4g21schilly.png/)
-Harald's logo with Mvp4g on the left (http://img52.imageshack.us/i/mvp4g4schilly.png/)
-the puzzle, third link from Lukask (http://img529.imageshack.us/i/logo3i.jpg/, image 3)

If you have another idea for a logo by the end of the day, let me know and I will add it to the pool.

Thanks again for your effort and your help, I really appreciate it. Mvp4g logo will look great :)

Hi,

I set a poll to pick between the 4 best ones: http://mvp4g.googlecode.com/svn/temp/logo_poll.html. I think keeping the poll opened until friday night should be good.

Let me know which one you like the best.

Thanks,
Pierre

Thanks all for your vote.

Thanks again to Lukasz and Harold for submitting great logos.

thanks to everyone who has voted for me ;)

I already got some feedback and I'm happy to incorporate it into a
"finalized" version. I also plan to make several variations in
different sizes, and also a black/white only version and so on. Please
tell me if there are additional ideas or other things that are not so
ok. Also, since this is an open source project, I'll submit the svg
sources (I've used "inkscape" (also open source) to draw it) so that
the logo is part of the project and not tied to me.
