The Music Theory and Musicology Society at the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is pleased to announce its third student conference:

Identity and Classification: Discerning Musical Perceptions

Friday and Saturday,9-10 April, 2010
Cincinnati, Ohio

The conference will be held in conjunction with CCM's Thinking About Music lecture series, and Electronic Media division of CCM.

Students are invited to submit proposals for papers on broad range of topics with in the fields of music theory and musicology.

Our conference welcomes interdisciplinary research that pertains to but is not limited to:

Perceptions of works outside the canon
Aesthetics and Musical Perceptions
Cultural studies and musical classification
Music among the other Fine Arts
Reception History
Historiography
Style and Genre Studies
Modes of musical classifications and communication
Sonata Theory
Jazz Theory
Perceptions and Cognition
Perceptions of Performer, Composer, Listener
Identities of Performer, Composer, Listener
Performer Interpretation
Periodization

Paper presentations should be approximately 20 minutes in length.

Proposals should be submitted via e-mail only, as a PDF or Microsoft Word document, to ccm.mtms at gmail.com

Submissions must include the following:

* A proposal of no more than 500 words, double-spaced in 12-pt font. Please include the title of the paper but omit any personal identifiers, such as the author's name and institutional affiliation.
* An abstract of 200-300 words, suitable for inclusion in the conference program (if selected).
* A cover letter that includes the title of the proposal; the author's name, institutional affiliation, address, phone number, and e-mail address; as well as a list of any equipment needed for the presentation (e.g., stereo, overhead projector, etc.).

Proposals must be received on or before January 15, 2010.

Details regarding travel, accommodations, and the keynote address will be forthcoming. Updated information will be posted on our website: www.mtmsconference.org
