JOB: Washington University in St. Louis, Musicology (asst. professor)

Washington University in St. Louis announces a tenure-track position in musicology at the assistant professor rank to begin in Fall semester 2012. We are looking primarily for a scholar with expertise in Western musicology, particularly late 18th through early 19th century; additional interests outside the Western classical canon are desirable.
Qualifications: Candidates should have a Ph.D. in musicology, significant post-doctoral teaching experience, a promising record of publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Because Washington University is an environment that fosters interdisciplinary teaching, preference will be given to candidates who can engage in interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts environment.
Duties: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise; pursue research and publication; supervise independent projects, theses, and dissertations; and participate on department and university committees.

The Washington University Music Department is encompassed within the School
of Arts and Sciences. The Department offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music
programs and the following graduate degrees: Master of Music in Voice and Keyboard;
Master of Arts in Composition, Musicology, and Theory; and Ph.D. in Musicology and
in Theory. In addition to the music major, the Department also confers minors in
music and provides lesson and performance opportunities for some 500 students per
semester. Our applied music teaching staff includes members of the local jazz
community and of the St. Louis Symphony. Our student body consists of
highly motivated, academically-oriented young men and women who pursue music
primarily as a means of personal enrichment and less commonly as a professional
goal.
