My son uses the Imac for gaming and gets the keys all sweaty and yechy, and then the mouse ball on the top stops scrolling. What do I do to clean the mouse so that it scrolls again? Audrey Carr acar...@cogeco.ca
Try wetting your finger with rubbing alcohol and rolling the ball a few times. It might take a while but usually works.'

Welcome to Muglo Audrey.
I see that Paul Tucknott has answered your question.
But perhaps it could be more beneficial to show you how to look for almost any information on the internet. Can you open up the internet browser? If your browser is called Safari, put your cursor in the space where it says 'Google' in the upper right corner, click the mouse button, and type in key words such as "cleaning mouse". Press "Return" and immediately you will find a page full of links to answer as many questions as you can imagine. Here you can read up on topics from recipes to nuclear bombs.

Take the ball out and clean it with soap and water. Look inside the empty chamber where the ball sits and look at the two bars in there. Gunk builds up on those small bars preventing them from spinning and has to be scrapped off. If that does not work, it's time for a new mouse.

Dean that is good advice for an old mouse but I think the mouse they are talking about is a "mighty mouse" and access to the inside is not that easy. I have had the same problem with mine and a finger that is wet with just water cleared up the problem, rubbing alcohol is probably better but I didn't have any. That said I think the Microsoft brand mice seem to me to be better and more reliable.

Hey, you know what? I had a USB Mighty Mouse suffering from the dead scroll button. Been working around it for months. Your question prompted finding the 'solution'. --- MUGLO information at <http://www.freewebs.com/muglo> Manage list subscription options at <http://www.freelists.org/list/muglo>
