I have a question, i am trying to install freebsd 2.1.6 ... i have: 486/66 125
meg ide drive, 8 megs ram, adaptec 152x scsi card, reno 2x cd-rom drive, a cdc
322 meg scsi drive, monochrome video card an ethernet card(nec2000 compat.)...
My system locks up after the install, when i exit the sysinstall, it locks up
when it tries to sync disks.. (if i remember correctly, resave the kernal and
other things..) ... i had freebsd setup on a different machine earlier, but
this one is giving me trouble.. i am using the exact same equipment as last
time, except for the edition of the ethernet card, and a different scsi HD
than the current one i am using.. other than the processor everything else is
exactly the same.. quesiton: would the different scsi drive i am using lock up
the syncing disks? i dont have another hd currently to test it with.. but this
happened on a 386 i tried to put it on also, and same result.. i took the
inner working out of the 386 and put it in this 486.. i tried without the
network card.. i dont have enough room for just the 1 125 meg ide drive to put
the whole system on, so i didnt want to check that yet.. but after it locks
up, i am forced to reboot, and i get something to the effect of:

C:-3xxxxxxxx (bunch of numbers, cant remember off hand..) AFTER i get the
freebsd bootstrap.. i tried -c option, no luck, i am presuming the kernal cant
load cuz it wasnt saved? but what's locking up when it syncs disks? oh ya,
when it syncs disks it reports these numbers:

syncing disks... 66 33 [locks up here]

any help or if anyone wants the numbers that get printed out when i boot,
lemme know.. please respond via email, as i dont subscribe to the list..

thank you for all of your time.

I don't know... Recently it seems that YMMV with regards to the Adaptec
15XX series, although this is in 2.2. Have you tried using 2.1.7?

What's the error here?

It seems like the 15xx is bailing out before you're really done. Have you
checked that it's on a unique IRQ and port? Have you also checked that
your termination is correct and cable is OK?

i am trying to install freebsd 2.1 but i have a problem with freebsd not
finding my mitsumi cd-rom

ok here is the more in depth stuff

cd-rom type: mitsumi hex speed
firmware revision 1.00

i am running the cyrix 686 p120+100 cpu with a pentium mouther board, the
mouther board has 2 on board ide controlers curently the hard disk and
cd-rom are on diffrint controlers i would prefer it to stay this way the
hard disk is on irq 14 and port 1f0 and the cd-rom is on irq 15 and port 170

my sound card is un supported (it is a ESS)

when ever i setup cd-rom to be on irq 15 and port 170 it conflicts with the
port controler

i have also tryed to piggy back up the cd-rom to the hard disk but then the
cd-rom conflicts with the hard disk i cant get away from the port conflicts.

what can i do
thanks

Hi,

I'd like to know how can I use the atapi and wcd loadable kernel modules
instead of the building them statically in the kernel, I mean what should
I change in the kernel config file(I suppose that I should) and do these
modules require any special treatment.

Thanks

Sebestyen Zoltan It all seems so stupid,
it makes me want to give up.

when it all seems so stupid?
