A Future Shop, the Canon BJC-250 is seling for $119 new. I've seen people
selling their crappy used printer for MORE.
Also, same place, a Western Digital 5.1Gb RETAIL harddrive for $199. BRAND
NEW. I've seen people sell used 4Gb drives for MORE.
Ya sure these prices include the rebates, but if you can wait 4 weeks for the
refund cheque to come back, rebates are real, they aren't tricks or scams. I
already go back my cheque from Compucentre just few weeks ago when they were
selling 16Mb EDO simms for 1 cent (you pay full price, and get a cheque back
for 100%). At the same time, they had brand new Cardinal 56k v90 models for
$49 too. Again, I see people selling used 33.6 modems at this price.
SHOP AROUND. Lotsa of great deals out there. Can anyone else also edify this
post and prove a valid point?
You have good pricings on almost anything. You have good salesmen too!
What bothers me when I have to go there is that those salesmen simply do
not known what they are selling.
Examples: My first visit there (2 years ago) I asked for a 16 mb
72 pins SIMMS no parity.
The guy (in the computer section) just did'nt known
what I was talking about!!!
About one year ago, I went back for a Motorola ModemSURF
56Kflex modem.
Answer received: We do not carry them anymore. They are
no good. US robotics is better...and all that crap.
Sorry, I agree that US robotics makes great modem but
they are not the only one! If I prefer Rockwell this is
my choice and Motorola was a good choice....and it is
definitely not craps......Zoltix & Cirrus are craps
modems.
2 weeks ago: I was shopping for a new PC.
With a salesmen showing me this Compaq PC I asked him
things that are of interest for me...
What is the brand of the hard-drive? Don't know!!!
What is the brand of the v.90 modem? Don't know!!!
48 megs? Is it easily upgradable? Don't know!!!
How many megs on the SVGA card? Don't know!!!
Brand of the 32x CD-ROM? Don't know!!!
Pentium II 300 upgradable to 400? Don't know!!!
What is your name? Don't know!!!
...
At least MicroBytes can answer those questions....
The good point about Future Shop is about all other electronics (if you
know what you are looking for).
But again we must be very carefull. One day I went to buy an Home
Theatre system along with a CD player.
I chose the CD player. The salesperson gets the box but brings me a
am/fm tuner.......
Maybe I never was lucky when going there and I will certainly go there
again but defenitely NOT for computers.
Good day,

Granted, I see a lot of people asking way too much for their used stuff.
Heck, even I have been caught at this, it's always amazing how fast depreciation
takes its toll on computer equipment.
However, I make it a very big deal to avopid Futureshop like the plague.
Every single time that I've gone there, without exception, looking for a specific
item, they've told me that they were "fresh out" or that the item was
"discontinued" and then tried to steer me to a higher-priced item.
It's a load of crap, nothing more than a selling tactic. As a result, you
won't catch me dead inside a Futureshop store. Let the sheep rush in, I say.
