I know sending out this news through email may come across as very impersonal, but I wanted to make sure this got to as many people in the volleyball community as possible.
I am sorry to announce that one of our volleyball family members informed us that his wife of 22 years and friend for more than 30 passed away earlier this week following complications from cancer. Bob Wooten’s wife, Carol Cronkite, was diagnosed only four weeks ago with Cancer and had begun treatments, but her battle came to an end on Wednesday afternoon. Most of you may know Bob as the guy up on the referee stand, but many of you probably don’t know that Bob has committed a great deal of his time and effort to helping volleyball grow in Maine. Still serving on the MSVBA board, Bob was one of the founders of the Maine Volleyball Association, and helped get volleyball started in several Maine communities. For many years, you could always find Bob playing on the hard court a few nights a week and helped organize and run several tournaments and leagues throughout Southern Maine. You’ll still find Bob playing it up here and there until the call for a beer outweighs the call to play ball. He has meant a great deal to the growth of volleyball in Maine, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of his best friend. Some of us were blessed to have met her on a few occasions. Carol was a wonderful, caring woman who couldn’t help but make you smile.
If you would like to send your sympathies, Bob’s home address is:
91 Euclid Avenue
Portland, Maine 04103
Memorial gifts may be made to:
Cure Breast Cancer for ME (A part of the "Maine Cancer Foundation")
PO Box 553

A memorial service will be held on her birthday on July 25th with details to follow.
(Please feel free to forward this to other lists of players you may have, and please excuse me if you received this on a few occasions.)
