hello-

i've decided to try and revive the idea of having a web presence for
the groups on campus and have put a site up at http://missoulageeks.com.
i would welcome feedback as to what you would like to see here, and
what you think other perspective geeks who are looking to join one of
our groups. it's built on modx so if there are people who are excited
content creators i will be happy to provide access to help populate
the pages.

Thanks for doing this! Wish you were using Drupal though ;-)

Don't forget Montana Programmers, very active group with monthly
meetups in Missoula and in the Polson area.

Hey,

thanks for mentioning them i'll add them in. as cool as drupal may be
the learning curve it too high and it's overly complicated for putting
up a simple site with just a few pages.

Nick --- looks good. Do you think they'll be much posting for perl -
cgi web development? There or elsewhere in Missoula? I haven't found
much in the way of local resources now that I know enough about perl &
all things LAMP to start being dangerous to myself and others. It
would be nice to connect with locals and avoid the worst of the
beginner pitfalls.

Honestly, Drupal shot itself in the foot when hey decided to reinvent
their own terminology and then not make it clear. I have a hard time
figuring out how to do ANYTHING. I still don't quite get the
difference or purpose behind havig "Taxonomy" and "Categories" Then
content is somewhat arbitrarily Stories and Pages which sort of make
sense if you've used word press, but then if you add modules you'll
get OTHER content types.

Too much learning curve for the average (and even not so average)
content writer.
