Under Filter Rules there are at present:
Perform these actions:
Delete From POP Server
Fetch From POP Server

I would like to have:
Do Not Download From POP Server

or words to that affect

What are my chances?

If you change your server settings to download headers only, then you
can use the fetch from POP server action on those messages that you do
want downloaded. Or have I misunderstood your question?

Neil,

I have not as yet tried your suggestion of downloading headers only.

Under OE I was able to write messages rules based on "Subject Line
Content" to prevent the downloading of large numbers of Yahoo & other
groups, that my wife subscribes to, unto my computer. We are not going
to go to separate email accounts, for many reasons, to solve the
problem. Currently, I am just deleting her messages that arrive on my
machine. I could write rules/filters that would move all of these
directly to a local folder or trash as they are downloaded. We leave
all messages on our POP server for about 5 days, just in case of a whoops!

I take it that "Leave on POP3 server" is on but "Until I delete them" is
turned off, in which case you can filter the message headers and choose
to either delete them or download them as appropriate. This will then
avoid downloading entire messages that you don't want.

Neil,

I have just written a Message Filter called "Deleted by Subject" that
contains, for now, eight message groups that are deleted upon arrival at
my computer, only. They are downloaded but not removed from our POP
server. Works for me, just fills up the Trash but that is easy to take
care of. Should my wife ever need to use my computer to read these, I
can either disable the filter or she can check out the trash!

While we're on the subject of msgFilterRules, am I the only one who
would find a simple search feature useful? It's a PITA having to keep
a separate copy of the file to load into a text editor every time I
want to find a filter.

Brian,

All of my filters are listed under Tools/Message Filters, therefore,
easily found. Not sure why you are having a problem.

I am running TB 10.0.2.

Don,

Perhaps the reason might be that you've defined a few less filters
than I have?

Currently, my msgFilterRules.dat weighs in at just over 200 KB.
