According to that discussion, yes, it's supposed to work already, and even
better than I described. But FF 19.0.2 (in W7) isn't working that way here!

Well, that is strange. Maybe you accidentally turned the feature off.
Can you try it out in a new profile?

(Or maybe one of the other solutions listed there will help you.)
