Greetings!

When I installed Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 on a new machine a day or two ago,
I created an account called cml...@teleweb.at. So far, so good.
But then I wanted to get a repository for junk, and somehow
(automatically, I think), "Local folders" were created, and junk is
stored there. Not that I mind.
*But* the account cml...@teleweb.at has disappeared from the pane at the
left and seems to be useless. It can still be seen if I open "account
settings".

I really would prefer to use that account for most things and "Local
folders" only when necessary.

I am very grateful for any suggestions. I am using Windows Vista.

Greetings to all,
Charley

TB by default sets Local Folders as the location for everything. To
change this, change the locations in Account Settings.

Eg:
Account Settings > click on [account.name] > Copies and Folders > use
drop down menu to change all locations to [account.name.]

Do the same for Junk etc.

folders for each account, instead of Local Folders, which he thinks is
about as useful as mammary glnads on a male bovine.)

I wish I could do that! But the drop-down menu for the
cml...@teleweb.at account ONLY has "Local folders" as an option

Ok, try this:

First, if there are subfolders withing cmling, Move their contents to a
temporary folder(s) that you create in Local Folders. If you are really
paranoid, back up the Profiles folder first (I don't know exactly where
that is in Vista, it's a in a subfolder within ...\Roaming\...)

Then delete cmling and recreate it. This time at the Server Information
pane (the second one), UNCHECK the box Use Global Inbox.

This will force TB to set up the account as a "top level" account. TB
will create Inbox, Sent, etc, and will create Junk when you define its
location in cmling.

You can Move mails from the temporary folders in Local Folders to the
appropriate folders in the new cmling account, then delet those
temporary folders. Be sure to Compact all folders after doing this, as
TB does not in fact remove mails/posts from folders until this is done.

Do backup the profile before doing this, as mail might be lost if the
Global Inbox has been used for a while..
