My Yahoo Mail is also no longer working as of about the 20th?
(august). I get the following error on a pop-up box:
The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message.
Mail server localhost responded:

I have the latest webmail and webmail - Yahoo extensions. They've
been working fine for weeks.

I'm having the same exact problem as of monday
Same problem here. Just started using TB a couple weeks ago with my
Sandisk U3 flash drive. Never have got Hotmail to work but Yahoo was
working until yesterday. I have all the latest updates.
I am having the exact same problem with Hotmail. It started a few
days ago -- "mail server localhost responded: negative lives from
xx...@Hotmail.com. I thought it was an issue with my version of
Thunderbird, as I was using 1.5. I upgraded to version 2.0.6, and
updated the Web Mail and Hotmail extensions. I tried it again. Same
thing. If I go online with Internet explorer to check the Hotmail
account, there are messages there.
Oddly, I can
Finishing up the post above -- I can SEND messages from Thunderbird, I
just can't receive them. I thought it was a problem with a Hotmail
server, but I've seen enough messages about Yahoo problems to
understand that it is not exclusive to Microsoft and Hotmail. Anyone
else tried sending messages from Thunderbird, and see if that works?
Right-click the account in the folder pane.
Under "Server Settings" check "Fetch headers only" and click OK.
Collapse and re-expand the account.
If you see a message with no subject or with a garbled subject, delete it.
Then you can go back and uncheck the "headers only" box.
That seemed to fix the problem for me.

I was using the "Live" Hotmail, and all was fine till the recent probs
started. Switching back to the "old" Hotmail and reconfiguring the
Webmail-Hotmail ext to point to that got it working again.

In Server Settings, check Fetch headers only.
Fetch the headers and delete the one with no subject or a badly garbled
subject.
Clear the Fetch headers only checkbox and you should be back in business.
Worked for me, but, of course, YMMV.
