I use them, too, and have no problems with Thunderbird.

You do not specify exactly what trouble you are having but if the
security settings are not right it will cause connection problems
I use pop.att.yahoo.com on the Thunderbird 2.0.0.23
In the account settings make sure you have the server set to
pop.att.yahoo.com, User Name to the email address of the account; SSL
checked and are using port 995.
Uncheck use secure authentication
In the outgoing server
smtp.att.yahoo.com
SSL 465
Practically ATT/yahoo does not have any technical support.
Hi, OG - I agree with Keith's settings above. I'm not having any
problems. What are you seeing?
It has been quite wet is some parts of the country in the recent days.
Sometime water can effect the transmission lines.
Additionally on and off events can be caused by a bad ATT router. One
time you enter the system you are on a good router, the next a bad router.
Try to turn off the modem and restart, this sometimes makes a connection
to a different router.
You have your sub accounts authenticating with their unique username/pw,
or the primary username/pw?
