This too installed slick as gooseshit.
I unpacked the new version into its own subdirectory, ran it, and then
copied over the contents of the old profile into the newly-created profile.
Everything worked right off the bat. No problems.
What real-life miracle(s) did I give up in exchange for these
super-clean updates?

Followup set to moz.gen.
Ooops...
On a less-than-ecstatic note, whatever extension locks out the 'To' and
'Subject' fill-in fields on a new or replied message (requiring bringing
up a second reply window, which then works properly) is still locking
out those fields :-(
Annoyances with easy workarounds are tolerated.
