Messages won't delete

Having this problem with TB3 on my Mac only
(10.6): Sometimes the delete button associated with the message window
won't delete a message, and when I move the mouse back to that message
and any below it, they all disappear. Workaround has been to got to
messages in another folder, then come back.
Any one else had this issue? Advice?

I should have added that this is with the default
theme, although it happens with other themes as well.

I've occasionally had the problem of not being able to delete messages
when the folders were in need of compacting. Just a thought.

I have the "smart folder" option on all the time.
I'll switch over and check. Stay tuned...
BTW, in answer to another suggestion, compacting folders seems not to have helped.
