I'm currently using TB 7.0.1, and would like a few new features:
1. Several other newsreaders have special handling for URLs enclosed
in angle brackets - all embedded line breaks inside the angle brackets
are ignored when deciding how much of the URL to make clickable. For
example:
<
http://www.library.nhs.uk/rss/newsAndRssArticle.aspx?uri=http://
www.library.nhs.uk/resources/?id=177391>
<
http://www.diabeteshealth.com/read/2008/07/03/5814/rogue-enzymes-
linked-to-hypertension-and-diabetes/>
Could this feature be added to TB?
Note that these aren't the longest URLs I've found.
2. Most other newsreaders have a better distinction between the
delete function (for the local copy of a post, regardless of who
posted it) and the cancel function (for the server copy of the post,
and only for the account where it was posted). Can the delete command
be modified so that it discards the local copy of the body of the
post, and at least hides the header, without attempting the cancel
function as well?
3. Can TB be adjusted to be a better fit for those who are far behind
in reading at least one newgroup? For example, I've downloaded about
55000 headers from one newsgroup, then for 25000 posts, either read
them or determined from the header that they didn't look worth
reading, so I marked them read. I would like to be able to discard
the bodies of those 25000 posts, and make the headers invisible
regardless of whether they are deleted or not. The messages marked
read are not all the oldest ones, so adjusting how long messages are
kept is not suitable unless I can have very different times for
keeping messages marked read, such as a few days after such marking,
and messages not marked read, such as don't delete these at all yet.
I want to keep the headers for read messages visible for a few days,
so simply telling it to show only unread messages is not adequate.
4. Can TB be adjusted for better handling of newsgroups servers which
drop unused connections rapidly, and are slow at connecting again?
For example, I'd like to highlight several threads, then tell TB to
start downloading the bodies of all posts in those threads.
Currently, it often appears to download another copy every time I tell
it to open a particular post, which can take 30 seconds or so, even if
the post is a short text-only post. It also appears to download
another copy if I double-click on the line listing the message to get
a better view of it.
5. Can a button be added for displaying only posts that are fully
downloaded, for use during internet connection outages or extremely
slow newsgroups server response?
6. Can all the error message about failures on a news server be
adjusted to show WHICH news server, at least for users connected to
more than one newsgroups server? Currently, I find it hard to respond
to requests for a newsgroups username or password, since they aren't
the same for all the newsgroups servers I use.
