1. Help-->What's_New
2. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click on "Just in case you
missed it".

I saw that. How do I do this? "You can now search the Web without having
to leave Thunderbird. Type whatever comes to mind in Thunderbird's
search box and choose from several different search resources such as
Bing, Twitter, Wikipedia, and several more to find the answer you need."

How do I get THAT search box to appear?

1. View-->Toolbars-->Customize.
2. Drag the "Global Search" item to the toolbar.

It's there by default, so I guess you removed it at some point.

I've been updating for a long time and there is no search bar/Global
Search anywhere nor is there a button/Global Search in my customize box.
Guess I'll have to on a hunt.

Ok, found it ...

Tools => Options => Advanced => Check the box "Global Search and Indexer"

The search bar is on the right side of the main toolbar now. And yes, it
IS the default but it was unchecked deliberately because of some
problems in earlier versions.

But there is no global search button in "customize".

Make sure you have Gloda enabled: Tools -> Options -> Advanced ->
General -> Enable Global Search and Indexer.

Then, in the search box on the mail toolbar (if it doesn't exist,
right-click, hit Customize, and add it back in) and type something in.
Then select "Search the web for: <foo>" from the autocomplete dropdown.

Though it's already been mentioned, for completion, you can select text,
right click, and select "Search the web for: <foo>" as well.

If you'd like to open the search results page in your browser, set
mail.websearch.open_externally to true.

Yes and that is why I had it disabled because of some problems when it

Open the config editor = tools => options => Advanced => Config Editor.
Enter mail.websearch.open_externally in the filter box and then
dbl-click the line to set to true.

Thanks, it helps.
At least they add preference. I wonder how many time it will take to add
GUI for this preference...

Not satisfactory. I still get Bing, it just takes a few seconds longer
to get there.
What do the TB guys have against Google?

You can switch the default to Yahoo.

browser.search.defaultenginename;Yahoo
browser.search.order.1;Yahoo

But if you are so set on Google, use Firefox.

I can still get Google, which I prefer. Thunderbird 11, UK English,
