Dear All,

Win 7 is now here. I am buying my wife a new laptop for Xmas, it will
come with Win 7 64 bit home which I shall upgrade to ultimate.
Unfortunately our current "main" e-mail reader programme will not run in
64 bit windows and the supplier has no plans to upgrade it.

We have a system where the family's e-mails come into the peer to peer
server and are distributed as per the name before the @ sign across the
network.

I use Thunderbird to download all the e-mail from the ISP server. Is it
possible to set a filter in Thunderbird to download only those e-mails
with a set "name" before the @ sign to prevent her inbox filling up with
my "rubbish"?

Please advise.

Here is my suggestion that you may give a try.

First of all, configure that account to download headers only. You can
do it easily by activating 'Fetch headers only' option at Tools >
Account Settings > That POP account > Server Settings. Also if you have
'Leave message on Server' enabled then uncheck 'Until I delete them' option.

Now create a filter (Filter A) with following configuration:
To - Is Not - her email address.
Action: Delete message.

Create another filter ( Filter B ) with following configuration:
To - Is - her address
Action: Fetch from Server.

Now using Up button in filter manager window put Filter A at the top of
filter list and Filter B just after that.

The whole idea is as we can't restrict Tb from downloading all messages
so first we are downloading all message header. Then deleting header of
any message doesn't belong to her. After that Body of rest of message
will be downloaded.
