I'm running TB on Mac OS/X 10.5.8 (Leopard). Today I let it update from
version 10 to version 11. Mistake! Now it hangs up hard when I try to send
a message. I must do a "force quit" and then restart it. :-(
So, I wanna go back to V10, but don't know how to do that on a Mac.
Any advice?

Are you using an IMAP account? If so, it's a known bug, that is fixed in
the latest Beta. You can try the latest Beta at
<http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/>.

Thanks, Chris, but I'd rather stick to released versions.

Chris,

Downloaded latest 12.0 beta release and IMAP appears to work again;
however no Calendar. So downloaded the 1.4b2 of Lightening.

Thunderbird reports Lightning is working but the Calendar tab is not
showing and the option to display the Calendar on the View menu is
grayed out as well as the To Do List option.

This is a major bug (IMAP issue) and Mozilla should have released TB
11.1 with the fix, instead of making everybody try and sort this mess
out. I use Thunderbird at work instead of Outlook, so this really caused
problems.

As this type of issue is going to happen again with the fast release
schedule, Mozilla should incorporate an option of allowing the user to
revert back to a previous working version. May be the install should
give the option of saving the current version in another folder so that
it can be re-installed. Or may be Mozibackup(?) could be modified to do
this for the install only.

Chris,

Solution found.

If you click on the Calendar icon on top right (same height as the Tabs)
then the Calendar re-appears.

David.

There is an 11.0.1 on the way.

Since my post, a new update to Thunderbird has been released with the
fix, so instead of going back to a previous version, you should update
to the latest version.

To check for updates, go to Help-->About_Thunderbird.

11.0.1 made it worse. I am on Windows 7.

Could you please start a new thread for your problem? I think it's clear
that the cause of your problem is different than Nelson's.

Off the top of my head, try starting Thunderbird with extensions
disabled. To do that, go to Help-->Restart_with_Add-ons_Disabled. If the
problem doesn't occur with extensions disabled, the cause is probably an
extension. See
<http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes>.

My memory also continues to grow with 11.0.1 on Windows 7. This is
using imap. Was over 2GB before I killed it. Starting in safe made
made no difference. Nor did compacting mail folders or moving emails
to other local folders to shrink my main folder (local folder that
contains copies of IMAP emails).

I just upgraded to tb 11.0.1 on XP which uses pop and it's memory too
keeps growing

Made what worse? I don't see that you posted details of your issue, or
what you attempted.

Nelson, were your hangs always on sending a message? And always "big"
messages?

One of the few hang bugs is
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=535070 ... we'd need a
stacktrace from your hang, to determine whether or not your issue
already has a bug report.

But I can't think of any hangs reported in bugzilla that occur in
version 11 but don't happen in version 10. Quite possibe you could be
seeing something new, like a regression from
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711787 (no regression
reported thus far)
