When threads grow large, split into sub-threads (i.e. branches) or
divert from the OP I'd like to be able to collapse entire branches. TB
doesn't support that.
Is there an add-on that offers this feature? Couldn't find one on
addons.mozilla.org...

Cheers,
Marcel

Do you want to collapse a sub-thread?
In that case, there isn't any such extension but Tb provides an option
to ignore sub-thread (Messages > Ignore Sub-thread).

Yes, that's what I'm looking for.

For example the "So disappointed in TB3 :-(" thread has developed a few
sub-threads in which I'm not interested. Following the thread would be
so much more efficient if I could simply click those away by collapsing
them.

I also couldn't find a request for such a feature on bugzilla. This
makes me wonder if I'm the only user who'd find that useful.

The ability to collapse, watch, and - particularly - ignore sub-threads
is a facility I have found useful in other newsreaders.

I hardly dare to say it, but I think even Outlook Express has that,
hasn't it?

If possible, mark that sub-thread as ignored.
