Thunderbird 2.0.0.23, Windows 7.

I just realized that I'm not getting any sound when new mail arrives.
Don't know how long it's been that way.

If the default sound is checked the "Play" button is grayed out. If I
select a specific wav file the "Play button is enabled but there is
still no sound.

I created a new profile to test with and get the same results.

Suggestions?

Might want to see what the following are set as:

Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor

mail.biff.play_sound
mail.biff.play_sound.type

Mine are set as the following:
mail.biff.play_sound true
mail.biff.play_sound.type 0

....as an aside you might also be interested in this discussion which
mentions some add-ons:

Thanks. That helped. The sound.type parameter indicates whether TB
should play the system sound (0) or a custom sound (1). That didn't fix
the problem but your pointer to the mozillazine article did solve part
of the problem. I'd searched mozillazine before posting but didn't find
that article myself.

The problem is a conflict with ReminderFox sounds. If ReminderFox is
set to make a sound when it notifies me of an event than Thunderbird
sounds are suppressed. Turing off sounds in ReminderFox enabled the
system sound in Thunderbird. It still won't play the custom mail sounds
I've tried, but having the system sound is OK for me.

Thanks! - adjusting the above from "false" to "true" did the trick for me. I got a fresh win7 machine, and new mail on Tbird did not generate a sound.
