How do I turn off the automatic synching and indexing? In the two days
I have been using 3.0, when I try to do much of anything it hangs and I
almost constantly have to do a Force Quit (Mac). I'm assuming that it's
because the synching/indexing together with whatever else I'm doing is
overtaxing my computer (MacBook Pro, OSX 10.4, 2.16 GHz, 1GB 667 MHz
RAM). I would rather be able to turn it on and off, and have it only be
done when I am not actively using TB.
In fact, I got so frustrated that I tried to revert to 2.0. I
discovered that 2.0 now needed to re-download my entire gmail IMAP
account. Fortunately, that has finally finished, and I am once again
using 2.0.

once you let tb finish doing the initial indexing... its very much a
background process... it took hours for my machine to finish when i
first upgraded to 3B04... i'm using a much older laptop than you... and
have no problems...
but that entire first day my old qosmio was indexing 300 mb of
mailboxes across a wireless network... just had to walk away and let it
do its thing...
now... working fabulously...

Did you try clicking on Tools (or Edit) - Options - Advanced then on the
General tab clear the check mark on the line that says "Enable Global
Search and Indexer"?
