They're still there because they're still installed. Look carefully to
see if they're disabled or not.

Known issue with Flash, discussed here many times in the past couple of
months. There's even a workaround, posted many times.

If this one is also working well....You should post an url where you
have the problem and where we can see it.

I wonder if there's just a way to uninstall all of them en masse and see if
that helps? It's also kicking me over to the bookmarks when I visit a lot of
web sites, which is grating on me. I HATE Internet Explorer but it works, and
I need SM to work right.

Safe Mode and/or "disable" in the Add Ons Manager window effectively
renders them non-functional.  Some of them, add-ons, are installed by
the operating system so SM cannot uninstall them. You would need to do
that via e.g. Windows' Add/Remove Programs.  But, Safe Mode and/or
disable renders them non-functional.

As noted in another reply in this thread it is most likely the Adobe
Flash add-on.  Fix?  Perhaps.

You have to enter enough of an "ad" to get to the validation page...I

I JUST SOLVED IT!

I had it set to load all images, BUT under permissions, I'd somehow blocked
it from loading Google ones, which I didn't realize Captcha came from! I got
rid of the whole permissions thing for Google and it works now on that
Backpage site!

WHEW!!!

I'd try what someone else suggested - create a new Profile, verify that
it works before changing anything, and then add/change things until it
doesn't work.  Then change that back and verify that it works again.
That will be your culprit.  Change Prefs first, then Add-ons.

It's helpful to others if you put a '[Solved]' (or similar) in the
subject line. This way others who may not have read the entire thread
will know that you've solved the issue & won't waste time/effort trying
to help further.
