2.11 did not fix anything and made things worse. I have to use Chrome to watch YouTube. The only thing that works is the email and copying and editing web pages.

It's gotta be your setup, 'cause I can watch Youtube all day long with my SeaMonkey... why not fix what's wrong instead of .. how's that go? .. throwing the baby out with the bathwater? :-)

Indeed, must be you're setup,
I have used SeaMonkey for the last year or so, and I would-not change for any other setup.
Have you tried disabling all add-ons and plugins?
If not - then do so and see if there are any improvements???????
I have personally been there before, I found the culprit (I can't remember what it was), removed it and found an alternative, and all was good.
SeaMonkey is a good, 'read-deal' package - you MUST have something wrong with your setup or system somewhere.
Try disabling all add-ons and plugins, and tell us how that goes.

Disable add-ons but NOT plugins. After all, YouTube relies on the Flash
plugin.

Mostly, but not quite. Many (but not all) videos are also available in
HTML5 Video, i believe in the WebM format. Disabling the Flash plugin
and checking if the video works as HTML5 is a valid test -- maybe the
problem is with Flash...

It looks like YouTube dosen't support HTML5 for SM at all at this point:
If you Google "force youtube html5" you'll get a bunch of ways to do it using scrip hacks...but I thought there was an easier way - like a different URL you could go to?

Ditto no problems. I rarely crash with Flash unlike SM v2.0.14. :)

How can one tell that that is actually an HTML5 playback? They are in the process of switching and many post are now presented in multiple formats depending on browser/device.
I had heard something about using a specifier in the YouTube URL to force HTML5, but I forget just what it was. This URL doesn't look like it - yes, it works for me. But I haven't been having any problems with YouTube.

For one thing, they didn't. All new videos should get converted, but not all old ones have been converted yet.
That said, SeaMonkey contains WebM (VP8) support by default. It's just that YouTube doesn't even active HTML5 video support by default, you have to go to an obscure "HTML5 trial" page to even activate it.
The actual problems seen are probably created by Flash 11.3, though. This version is crashier than any before, which is completely Adobe's fault, but Mozilla is working with them to try and improve the situation.
There's also another problem if you have Real Player Video Downloader installed, which sometimes makes watching videos impossible. The guys at Real are working on fixing that, until then, it's best to disable or uninstall their plugin.

If you have flash turned off, and the video starts to download & play,
then it's html5 (actually WebM). You can right click on the video and
see the menu. There will be a second menu behind it with an 'About
HTML5' selection option.

...
Interesting comment... I've never gone to their trial page and (as we've
seen from my previous posts) HTML5/WebM works w/o issue. Well, actually
too well, but I've fixed that with a new WebM button on prefbar.
Yes you can sign up for the html5 YouTube test, but not all videos will play with HTML5. There are some restrictions:
--Videos with ads are not supported (they will play in the Flash player)
--On Firefox [includes SeaMonkey] and Opera, only videos with WebM transcodes will play in HTML5
How can you tell the video is played using html5? I'm on the Mac so I can kill (i.e. remove temporarily) the flash plugin process using the activity monitor's quit process. Then I can check whether the flash plugin is loaded when I play the YouTube video. If the flash plugin is not loaded then the video was played using html5. (On other OSs you can do this but I'm not sure how it is done.) When I killed the flash plugin flash did not reload proving Youtube played the video using HTML5 (if there is an embedded ad in the video the video will play using flash.

You can also tell by using the Media tab of Page Info.

Flash is working fine for me, so I suspect I view this link in Flash.
I don't have Flash installed on my Mac Mini...I need to go experiment around with that setup and see what I get. So far I haven't had any problems with either setup - Flash/no Flash.
I'll go you one better - I don't even have Flash installed on my Mac Mini and I haven't seen any problems seeing what I want to see on YouTube - so I can only assume that the content I want to see is available in HTML5, H.264, or something else not Flash-dependent.
Then there's that YouTube app on my iPap - certainly no Flash there. I don't know if that trans-codes or what, but it works. Flashlessly.

I could find the info in the General tab, but not in the Media tab.
