cursor location for new tabs/windows

Hi, I have a suggestion for a future release of Firefox. Currently, if
you open a new tab or window, the cursor is placed in the Address
field. This is fine most of the time, but there is an exception. I
believe that the script that changes the focus to the Address field
should NOT run if the current focus for the tab/window is in the
Search field. My primary behavior as a user of tabs is to open a new
tab then immediately click into the Search box to begin typing my
search criteria. Because Firefox wants to change the focus back to the
Address field, it will often jump out of the Search field halfway
through my typing, splitting my criteria between the two fields. The
workaround is for me to be more patient and wait for the Address focus
to happen before moving to the Search field and typing but I don't
believe that to be the best solution to a UI problem (and, try as I
might, I can't change my behavior).

Most of the time, I want to search and only some of the time do I want
to go to a specific URL - to me, the default placement of the cursor
should be the search box. However, if studies show that the most
common behavior is to go to a specific address rather then run a
search, it would make sense to leave the default cursor placement in
the Address field. However, don't punish the people who want to search
by kicking the cursor out of the Search field as they are typing. The
script that changes the focus to the Address field should only run if
the current focus is NOT in Firefox's Search field.

Thank you for your time!
