If it was Mozilla the program that became corrupted (How??) then you may
not need to be worried. In your Windows Explorer, do a search for
"Inbox" (without the quotes), as this is where your incoming Mail is
found. There will, hopefully, be a folder called "sent" (without the
quotes), which contains your outgoing mail, at the same location.
Once you have found your old profile, the good people here can advise
how to import it into your new profile.
You may first need to have a look at:-
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/hiddenfiles.mspx
so that your folders will all be visible.
Let us know how you go.

Richard, the preference in these groups is that you bottom post, as I am
doing. You could imagine that the champions in these groups, who read
hundreds of posting per day, find it easier to start at the top, then
read each posting in secession to follow what's going on. Anyway........
Having found the old e-mails, in Windows Explorer change the name of the
folders they are in from inbox, sent, etc to old-inbox, old-sent, etc.
Then move them to where the current inbox, etc, are. Then, when you
start Mozilla, you should have both inbox and old-inbox, sent and
old-sent, etc. Move the e-mails around to your hearts content.
HTH
What version of Mozilla do you have and have you considered moving to
Seamonkey, which takes up where Mozilla finished:-

Daniel
Hi Daniel found the files and transferred them to the "new" inbox. When
I open the folder using explorer they are there. But they are in code
and do not show up in Mozilla as mail sent or received.
Mozilla version is 1.7. If I can get these mails back I will certainly
change to Seamonkey.
Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Richard
Richard, just to confirm you are dealing with, for example, the file
called "inbox" and not the file called "inbox.msf"?
Daniel
Hi yes it is just inbox but there are lots of them about 30 or so with
different dates. They will open in wordpad and each file contains a
number of emails in code.
There is also a folder called inbox though when I try to open it it
appears to be empty.
Richard
code such as what? If there's lots on several lines together, then
that might represent a pic or some other attachment that doesn't get
converted to text.

You would have the same sort of header info at the top of your "inbox"
(with no ".msf" suffix) with all your messages to follow.
To view your file content, Edit (Note Edit not Open) the file using
Notepad or Word.
Daniel
that maybe all find and dandy, but as I said, if it was an image

Funny Things To Do in An Elevator: Tip #2: Crack open your briefcase
or purse, and while peering inside ask: "Got enough air in there?"
O.K. but in both cases the file did not start with unintelligible
garbage, so it may mean that Richard has about 30 or so "inbox"'s to
sort through to find his right one.
Daniel
gw, I would have thought that the inbox would have started with a email,
new or read, but, I guess, your file still contains the attachment to an
email that you have read and deleted at its head! Correct?
Mind still wandering. Don't we normally say that when an email is
deleted, it's really just marked for deletion until we compact the file?
If we mark an email for deletion, then compact the file, wouldn't that
also remove any attachments, as well? If so, how do you still have the
attachments, but not the email, at the head or your file? Is an
attachment put into the file after the email to which it is attached?
This sort of makes sense.
End of wandering, for now!
Daniel
wrong! Who said anything about deleting the message. I have many
messages that I haven't deleted yet from the inbox and they contain
lots of attachments.

O.K. What does happen. Did you give the Inboxes individual names BEFORE
you moved them, with Mozilla closed, to your profile location? If so, do
these additional inboxes appear in your profile when you start Mozilla?
Daniel
Sorry if this gets in the wrong thread. I just subscribed to the
newsgroup and am sending this from my Mozilla email client. I didn't
know how to start a new thread other than to reply to a random message
and wipe it clean and change the subject line. Is that an acceptable
procedure? Hopefully, it's simply subject line indexed.
Anyway, I have a question about email composed and sent while in Offline
mode. When I click on Send, the Compose window simply disappears and I
don't see any folder or other reference to stored unsent mail. I did
just find the File / Send Unsent Messages command which is dimmed when
there isn't any mail waiting to be sent. Is there anywhere to see what
mail is waiting to be sent?
It would be nice to be able to review any unsent mail before blindly
sending it out into cyberspace. As it is, I had composed 2 messages
offline, but when I sent them, I noticed that 3 messages were sent. I
remember composinig one offline several days ago and had forgotten about
it. Now somebody is going to get a duplicate of an earlier email that I
had rewritten thinking the original was lost.
Thanks,
Peter Anton
well, so far you're doing good. To post your own message, for
example, to start your own thread, you just click on Compose, and then
send. To reply to a message, you click on Reply. Just like email.

Peeves That Your Dog Has About You . . . A Message From Your Dog:
Getting upset when I sniff the crotches of your guests. Sorry, but I
haven't quite mastered that handshake thing yet.
Dog sweaters. Hello??? Haven't you noticed the fur?
Acting disgusted when I lick myself. Look, we both know the truth.
You're just jealous.
Now lay off me on some of these things! We both know who's boss here!
You don't see me picking up your poop do you???
The Unsent folder is in the "Local Folders" account.
Use Write or New Message to create a new thread
To see if there is/are any messages waiting to be sent, look in the
Unsent folder(s).
No, there are no indications the message is being saved, the entire
procedure is automatic.
If you want to review your mail prior to it being sent out, then review
it prior to hitting the SEND button (or Send Later button as the case
may be)
Well, whatdya know... I never gave the Local Folders "account" a good
look, but there it is in black and white. D-oh!
Here's another question: I now have 3 accounts that I want to check when
I download my POP mail. I found that just clicking the Get Messages
button does not check all accounts and I have to click on the down arrow
and select Get All Messages. I thought that the button might be for
just the primary/default account, but I changed that and it still looked
at the same account. Perhaps I have to close the mail client and repoen
it for the changes to take effect. Do I have that correct about the
button? Any way to program the button to automatically check all accounts?

To compose a new message in Thunderbird, click the "Write" button.
In Mozilla and/or SeaMonkey, look for a "New" or "Compose" (or even a
"Write" there too). Now on to the question.
check your drafts folder
if you have an outbox, check that.
others welcome to correct me.

Interesting. In my installation it's in the primary mail account. Does
it "belong" in Local Folders, or doesn't it matter?

CTRL-T gets messages for whichever account you're in at the moment.
CTRL-SHIFT-T gets messages for all accounts.
To have Mozilla automatically retrieve all accounts periodically, go
into the settings for each of your accounts and set each to retrieve
automatically. AFAIK there is no global setting that lets you set all to
the same options at the same time. But if you set all your accounts to
the same interval (e.g., 20 minutes), they should all check for new
messages in tandem. Or you may prefer for some accounts to check more
often and others to check less often.
