Hi. I am an undergraduate Computer Science student. I would love to get
involved with Instantbird. I think fixing bugs would be a good way to
start. Can someone please help me find an easy first bug to fix.

Thanks.

Hi!
Great to hear that you want to help with Instantbird! What do you think about coming to our IRC channel #instantbird on irc.mozilla.org? You could talk to us about things that might annoy *you* and that you'd like to have fixed or changed and we would help you to find something suitable for you then. Having a bug to fix that you're interested in yourself helps greatly at the beginning :) If that's not the case, we'll find anything else too
We're usually in the channel during the day in Europe and US east coast. Someone will respond sooner or later if you come there and say hello, you might have to wait for a while at worst (we're few and also have other jobs;).

Have a nice day!
Benedikt Pfeifer (I'm "Mic" on IRC)

Hi. It was great to get a prompt reply. I have tried hanging out on IRC but
unfortunately, I never find anyone there. Its probably due to the time zone
difference. However, it would be great to get some help here. I have a good
understanding of C, C++ and Java. It would be great if you could direct me
to some bugs I could fix.

Thanks a lot.

We managed to catch you on IRC, I believe, but just in case someone else
is interested: people are usually on IRC during CET and EST hours
(that's something like 1000 UTC to 0230 UTC).

I wish we did a better job of marking bugs as "easy", but we don't
always do that. Unfortunately there aren't that many bugs that are
simple without a knowledge of JavaScript, which is what much of
Instantbird is written in. Generally looking the "trivial" [1] (or
"minor") bugs is a good place to start.

Thanks for your interest in Instantbird!
Patrick
