share bookmark file between different firefox-installations

Hi,

I didn't get arount the following problem, maybe someone in this group
can give me a hint:

I've got 2 systems, one Linux and one Windows. I've got firefox
installed on both systems and regularly use it on both. My home on
linux is identical to 'My Documents'-folder on windows.

Now I want to share the bookmark-file between both installations of
firefox. What's the best way to do this?

I haven't gotten around to doing this yet myself, but the following page
gives instructions on how to mount a network share on boot up on the
linux box:

That page refers to Fedora Core 5 specifically, but there is nothing
distro specific in the instructions, that I can see. It seems pretty
generic to me.

Note that this assumes that you have already set up a shared folder on
the windows box. I created a folder named SharedData, and subfolders
named Firefox & Thunderbird. Then follow gwtc's or Chris's advice on
both installations of FF to set the location of the bookmark file.

I have done that already, for the windows boxes & that is where I store
my bookmarks & my mail & newsgroups for Thunderbird, as well.

thanks for all those replies. i've created the entry
"browser.bookmarks.file" in the about:config-page and now i see the
same bookmarks in both of my firefoxes. great! (only problem is, that i
have to take care not to save bookmarks in parallel, as the last
firefox-session might overwrite changes of the previous - but that's a
minor issue)

another little issue: when first entering the new config-entry, i
misspelled it accidentially. now interestingly there does not seem to
be a way to delete obsolete entries from about:config. or is there?

I prefer to close the program, and open the prefs.js file and remove
the entry there. This file is in your profile. To find your profile
you can read this: http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/edit#profile

but, if you're using windows, then you must read this first:

i just checked, and saw that this bad entry is gone now. so apparently
all it needs is restarting. thanks!
