first go on, it remembers me and I see I'm logged in. But whenever I goto do
something like revise an auction, and it wants me to sign in, fair enough,
it even has my username pre-filled out, I just have to pop in my password...
this is where it starts to go pear shaped.
It then wants me to sign in for a second time, even though I just did, but
this time it has even removed my username so I have to fill in both fields.
Sometimes this works, but when I goto revise an auction to change the
category, or do something that requires ebay to do carry out an action,
firefox actually tries to download a .dll file!

Whats going on, its annoying the hell out of me as I sell on ebay daily, and
cant alter my ads or sign in properly unless I click the IE tab in the
bottom right window to use ebay with firefox now.

Try the usual first aid: clear the cache, and delete any cookies
referencing the site. Re-start Firefox, and try the site again.

Short answer: eBay screwed up.
Longer answer:
An ISAPI DLL is a Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) extension
DLL that does the same thing a CGI program does on any other web server.
Since running an external process is less efficient in Windows, MS
created ISAPI to allow developers to put the code in DLLs.
But, eBay got SLOPPY. Instead of sending the correct headers to
tell the browser "hey, I'm sending HTML", they depend on the browser
to ASSUME any old crap you send is safe. Since they didn't sent the
correct headers, Firefox isn't going to handle it as an HTML page.
eBay broken; contact eBay for fix.

I don't doubt that it has happened before, but if eBay is broken in that
way, wouldn't it cause all Firefox users to experience the same problem? As
a regular eBay user, I have yet to encounter any of the problems mentioned.
I have seen those problems on other sites, but only rarely. I've used
nothing but Firefox for my browsing since it was known as Firebird. The
only problems I've ever had with eBay were due to my turning javascript off
for some reason, and forgetting that I'd done so. Or, I was trying to use
it during their routine maintenance time on late Thursday nights. That
sometimes results in "try again later" messages.

Something to keep in mind, however, is that eBay does not consist of
just a single server.
Someone had a problem, quite a while back, with a site that used Java
Server Pages, files with the .jsp extension. These function in the same
way as .asp, .php, .cgi, etc., in that they are not static HTML
documents, they are processed by the server, to generate the actual HTML
that is sent to the browser.
Now, in that case, the site had *one* server, out of many, that was
misconfigured, and was sending the raw code, instead of processing it
and generating HTML.
It took many reconnects to the site before I experienced the problem.
After I emailed the site, they replied, confirming it was a server
configuration problem, with one particular machine, and that they had
corrected it.
I have to agree with Ron that it is, most likely, the situation here,
albeit with one machine, rather than a site-wide configuration problem.
So, while you may not be having any problems, you may not be hitting
that *specific* server, or possibly, not even the same server farm,
assuming that they use multiple data centers.

Its been a re-occuring problem for a few weeks now.
It is immediately sorted the moment I do the 'clear cache' option in FF.
I can handle that, anythings better than pulling my hair out like I was!
Someone somewhere had said that ebay had bought a bunch of server somethings
without multi-browser testing them before hand. Don't know what thats all
about though.
