I've noticed that in FF 3.6, when you open a web page link in a new tab,
the new tab appears to the right of the original tab. In earlier
versions of FF, the new tab appeared as the right-most tab. Any way to
restore the 'old' behavior?

Yes, there is, I've done it. I've forgotten how--it is discussed in a
thread here recently, I'll see if I can find it.

Not if you install the "Tab Mix Plus" addon,
and tell it not to do that...

:)

Well, I can't figure out how to use the New Improved Whizband Search

I've disabled it too although at first sight it looks like a good
feature. It has something that makes me feel confused. Perhaps it's the
fact that I normally open new tabs in the background with middle click
an this case:

- There's no visual feedback when the tab appears (such as an animation).
- Tabs get grouped but you cannot identify the groups (in IE they get
coloured).
- When I open several tabs, they end up in reverse order: I have to read
them from right to left.

I have the impression that it could be a nice feature but it still needs
some polishing.

Absolutely agree with the first two points, I tried to point out the
visual part to the developers on their newsgroup, and was absolutely ignored.

They're going to roll it out come Hell or high water no matter what
-- after being disliked so much on much earlier betas at least a year ago.
You can vote on a bug but it is hard to vote against something until
it is completed and another bug can be created. Unfortunately that
is the only way that progress can be made when the original writers
aren't doing everything top to bottom themselves.

But the point that I made there was that without being able to use
a style to denote what tabs have not been read it is practically impossible
to use. The style that would help was destroyed also by Firefox 3.6
see Bug 487242 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487242
If you have a bugzilla account you might vote for it, but try to avoid
adding to the bug report itself unless you have something really useful.

The third item about possibly being a nice feature, it certainly not the
way that I work with pages, and to be useful in my mind it would be
dependent upon being able to select that option each time a new tab from
a link, or for all links on a page as individually clicked on after making the choice.

There are some additional things that may give users problem in
Firefox 3.6, if not taken directly to that section look for "(#fx3p6)"
