I was quite surprised to find out that whenever Firefox (2.0.0.4)
connects to the internet, a connection is opened automatically to the
following:

newslb13.thdo.bbc.co.uk (212.58.226.33)

SFAICT this is a BBC newsfeed. How do I go about removing it permanently
from firefox. Please advise. TIA.

No. It connects quite by itself (or at least tried to).

Perhaps you have a rss feed in the bookmark, open the bookmark file in a
tab of firefox and search by bbc

If you find a fix for this, please let me know. It's been driving me crazy
that each and every time I start Firefox, I'd get a cookie from bbc.co.uk.
This would explain why. I've since blocked the cookie and it no longer
shows up, but I'd prefer to fix this at the source. Any info would be most
appreciated.

While I'm grateful to you for providing this information, I am a little
annoyed about this hidden 'feature' in firefox. Just imagine the
reaction if MS slipped something like this in. I found out purely by chance.

I do not consider the BBC, its news, in particular, to be free from
bias; and the connection to them (without my knowledge) and auto-logging
which must have taken place on their server every time I have started
Firefox up I find unacceptable.

Could not firefox install make it quite plain that these automatic
connection will be put in place and ask the user whether he/she wants
them or not?

Wow, every single news feed under Latest Headlines was a BBC News feed.
Seems kind of strange to me. I'd assume the Associated Press or Reuters
would be better choices, but then again, I'm not all that familiar with RSS
feeds. Thanks very much for the info.

I can confirm that I downloadeded the .exe from mozilla. I was quite
unaware of these settings and that BBC (New World Order media?) newsfeed
had been incorporated.
