Does someone know the reason why the common shortcut Ctrl-Q has never
been implemented in Firefox?
It is used in Thunderbird. IMHO this shortcut should be used in all
Mozilla software.

I don't know, Command +Q works on a Mac.

Also works on Linux. I wonder why it doesn't on Windows?
Lee
I just discovered it on Linux; on WinXP I use the add-on "Exit Button"
and to have a similar behaviour I do so for Thunderbird. It seems that
Windows users are penalized...

Does alt-f4 do the job (properly)?
Reasonable sure it is so that you don't accidentally close Firefox, it is
next to Ctrl+W. I know I would not want to accidentally close Firefox,
though I would normally have tabs open and so it would hardly ever
happen without a confirmation reply. I don't think the confirmation
for closing tabs was around when Firefox started anyway.
There is Ctrl+Shift+W, Alt+F4 for close which is not the same as close browser.
I really just have the Windows keyboard shortcuts lists, with a few exceptions,
as often one or more of the windows shortcuts, I think, usually works for Linux.

HTH,
David McRitchie, extensions I use are briefly documented on my site
Firefox Custom: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm
Of course, it does, but is it equivalent to "File-Exit" or to "X" (red
cross)?
I just wonder why FF on Windows is the only configuration without the
Ctrl-Q shortcut.
David's argumentation should also apply to TB, Linux, Mac...

What's the bug number?

Same here. And I have the restart button (I believe from MR Tech) just
to the left of it.

I cannot find one, but it seems to be a widely known problem

Considering that you were the one asking if the bug was fixed, I don't
anyone was expecting you to know the bug number. :-)
That URL isn't really useful because:
* a number those pages address different issues (e.g. general hangs not
related to shutdown, getting a safe mode dialogue whenever you start
Firefox, and the myths page).
* if the bug was fixed recently, those pages aren't going to disappear
from search results.
I'm not saying that the bug doesn't exist (even though I have not
experienced it), but an actual bug number would be very helpful to know
what the circumstances are to see the bug, and when it is fixed.
Hi Chris
I don't really know whether your question was directed at me or was
addressed to the group in general.
My most obvious experience is when I close FF down (using the X button)
prior to using CCleaner, which then gives me a pop-up telling me that if I
don't close FF it cannot delete the cache. When I then open Task Manager, I
see FF is running . I close it from there and CC proceeds.

To the red X on the window's bar.
